A Miserable, Stormy Beginning To The Week

Sunday Dinner With Linda And Ron

7:02
It's hard to imagine an uglier morning than today. Dirty gray sky, pouring rain, pooling on the lawn and brick walk, and a dismal 40º.  And I am going to Erie this morning with my old friend Stan to meet college friends for breakfast, a good day to be on the road as long as it just rains.

Yesterday was another windy day, with rain expected but it never started until the evening.  Once again, we did not go for our usual Sunday walk around the Chautauqua Institution grounds as the weather was not cooperating.  We were having friends over for Sunday dinner and Evie needed a few things from the grocery store so I volunteered to drive to Mayville, to Tops.  When I got home, she had the 1,2,3, 4 cake almost finished, needing only lemon frosting.  Once that was done, she made our breakfast, eggs, bacon, and bagels and we watched CBS Sunday Morning.

Love Braving The Weather On Long Point
The afternoon was leisurely as we were having a ham for dinner, and Evie had only to put together our friend Vickie's favorite casserole:  cauliflower, pancetta, and cream although she also added broccoli.  Late afternoon, I watched quite a bit of the NBA playoffs and was surprised by the poor play of the Cavs who lost at home to the Pacers.  Could they be knocked out in the first round?  If they play like they did on Sunday, they will be gone in a week.  I also got in a quick nap, a few more chapters in my Maisie Dobbs, before our friends, Linda and Ron arrived at 6:00.

We had not seen them since Easter dinner at Linda's two weeks ago so it was fun to get together.  They were excited because the deal had closed on their cottage, so they now own only one home, having owned three at one time.  It took us perhaps twenty minutes before getting to Trump, Syria, and Cohen's travails.  What else is there to talk about these days.  Dinner was a nice contrast, great food, lots of slices of a Smithfield ham, a tasty casserole,  sweet potatoes and a salad.  We ended the evening with Evie's lemon cake, just like our Mom's used to make.  Linda and Ron left around 9:45, with enough ham and cake for tonight's dinner.  We, then, quickly did up the dishes, Evie washing, me drying, a throwback to our parent's dinner parties when they did not have a dishwasher.
