Virginia In The Rain

Our Volleyballer, Halle

7:29 In Virginia
Virginia must agree with me because I slept in until 7:00.  When I got up, Jill's entire family, including the two dogs, Daisy and Coco were up and it took me back to the good old days when we spent our mornings trying to get our kids up and out to school on time, a herculean task that they managed to accomplish each morning.  It looks like a cool, overcast day here in Bristow, the high around 68º.  It looks like rain for the next couple of days and then it gets back up to the 80's.

We had a late start on our road trip yesterday because we had put off some packing and organizing until the morning.  Still, we were on our way by 8:20, not too bad of a start.  We made decent time although a half hour out, a light popped up on the dashboard, telling us our tire pressure was low. It was raining pretty hard so I waited to pull into a gas station with a roof over the gas tanks, checked the tires and all was fine.  Typical of modern car technology.

Rain And Fall Colours
Our drive was often made difficult by heavy rain and fog but by the time we got to Berkeley Springs, WV, it cleared up some. And despite the rain, the fall colors were striking, making the drive bearable, especially through the Allegheny State Forest.  We made our usual stop at the Shawnee Spring Market in Virginia, to get gas, shop and buy some fruit.  It was then an hour and a half drive to Bristow.

Fog In The Forest
We got to Jill's about 3:45.  We were going to our granddaughter Halle's volleyball game but it wasn't until 6:00 so we hung out for an hour before driving the 20 minutes to the game.  Unfortunately, it was not too exciting as the opponents had a difficult time even returning a serve, but it was fun to see Halle play.

Ready
We got home around 6:30 and Hayden was back from her cross country meet although she cannot run because she's out for three weeks with a tear in her quad.  It's very upsetting for her because she is the captain of her varsity team.

Relaxing With The Girls
We relaxed for an hour with a beer, catching up on all the school and family news since we have not seen them since early in August.  Evie had made a pot of sloppy joes on Tuesday, so that was our dinner, with Utz chips and dill pickels of course.  Everyone was hungry so we easily devoured them.  We then talked with the girls, mostly, about their school and sports as we watched the Indians lose the fifth and final game of the series, alas, a bitter ending to a great season.

Jill And Coco
Because Drew usually gets up at 5:00 and the girls have to be off by 7:00, everyone but Hayden, the junior in high school goes to bed around 10:30.  Hayden stays up much later, getting her homework done after a long day of school and cross country practice.  I forgot how hard these high school kids work if they are serious about school and sports.
