Kayak Morning

Kayaking At 8:00

Early Morning Fishing Off Long Point State Park
Our Neighborhood, Woodlawn and Victoria Through The Reeds
I was up just before 6:00, to a dark sky, 58º, and now, at 7:00, a vast cloud bank sits over the Bemus Bay shoreline as streaks of pink begin to appear off to the south.  It looks like it could be a good day on the lake, not too hot, some sun, a calm lake.  We will be gearing up for a road trip tomorrow, to visit our daughter Jill and her family in Bristow, Virginia for five days.

Mallard and Mate
It's just after 9:00 and I just got back from a great morning paddle, a changing morning sky, a solitary fisherman, a couple of good photographs of blue herons.  A great way to start the day.  Now I finish my blog, have Evie edit the photos and blog before publishing it.

Yesterday was another typical day here at the lake.  It doesn't change much this time of the year.  I kayaked for an hour, took some photographs of waterfowl and came home to finish my blog.  Evie was up and starting to think about prepping for our dinner.  We were having our neighbors, Joyce and Bill over for dinner because they are closing up their cottage this morning and will be driving home to Valley Forge for the winter, not returning until next June like most residents on the lake.  They are both in their 80's, doing very well, and have been coming up to the lake every summer since 1974.

We needed a few thing from the grocery store, so I drove to Lakewood, got a coffee at Ryders Cup then went to Wegman's to do a quick shopping.  On the way home, I stopped in Celeron to see the progress on the new hotel they are building on the lake shore.  In this town of modest homes, it looks out of place, like a dinosaur among reptiles.  Let's hope the builders know what they are doing.

When I got home, Evie had started prepping dinner but was taking time out to do a few things around the house.   Chris, our boat mechanic,  stopped over early afternoon to take our boat to Mayville to get it winterized.  I quickly cleaned it, took out all the life preservers and ropes, drying them out for storage.  Around 2:30, our good friends, Barb and Mike, stopped by after attending a funeral here in Jamestown.  Barb grew here so she has many ties to the community.  They stayed for only an hour before driving home to Hudson, Ohio.  It's always fun to see them and since they have become empty nesters, they have become great travelers.

The rest of the afternoon we got things ready for dinner, or rather Evie did, simmering the chicken until it was almost done and making another pan of apple dumplings for dessert.  I put the chicken on the grill and barbecued it for about 15 minutes at 5:30, giving it that browned almost charred look.

Dinner With Bill And Joyce
Our neighbors came over at 6:00.  We talked about our coming winter plans until it was time for dinner.  Evie had also cooked some noodles in the chicken broth, a family favorite, so it was like a summer dinner, minus the corn on the cob, barbecued chicken, noodles, and salad.  We had our apple dumplings with a drizzle of cream and they said their goodbyes around 9:00.  We will miss them.

We ended the night watching some of the Cleveland Indians baseball game, then  Saturday Night Live before going upstairs to read.
