Star And Crescent

6:47...Crescent and Venus

7:40
Back to normal as I woke literally at 6:00, decided to get up and came downstairs, turned on the coffee and noticed a low hanging star, most likely Venus, just above the Bemus shoreline.  As I sipped my coffee, it rose and the crescent moon appeared below it until the sun rose around 7:40 and both disappeared in the bright light.  It looks like a great morning for a paddle, a great day for a drive on the Amish Trail.

Wood Ducks This Morning
Yesterday began the way I like it, with a kayaking on a crisp morning, an empty lake, with lots of waterfowl to photograph.  When I got back, Evie helped finish off the blog, and we decided that since it was such a fall like day, we would go for a walk at Long Point State Park, just across the lake.  We left about 11:00 after a leisurely morning coffee, a quick clean up of the kitchen.

On A Morning Walk
We walked close to four miles, out for a good hour or more, as the trails were strewn with leaves, the trees not as colorful as we had hoped.  For some reason, brown seems to be the dominant color.  It was still good to be back in the woods, the temperature in the 50's, perfect at least for us when we walk.  We were the only ones in the park other than the a couple of guards and trustees from a local jail who were taking out the marina dock.

Bringing In The Docks
We usually witness both the putting in and taking out of the dock by the prisoners each year.

Long Point State Park

Autumn
We didn't get home until 1:00 and Evie suggested that fried leftover potatoes and eggs might be a good lunch.  How could I disagree, so I sat down to a great lunch and watched some TV.  We had no plans for the rest of the afternoon, just take it easy after our seven-hour drive on Monday.  Around 3:30, however, Evie fired up the lawn mower and cut our grass, mulching the leaves that had fallen over the weekend, a result of 2.5 inches of rain.  I helped by firing up our other mower (yes, we are a two Honda lawn mower family), mulching leaves in our parking areas and the backyard.  I also filled a large garbage pail with pine needles which covered our parking areas.

I finished up cutting the yard for Evie because she wanted to get started on dinner, scallops in a garlic, lemon and white wine sauce over pasta.  We were able to relax briefly with a glass of wine around 6:00 before we were back in the kitchen, searing the scallops, making the sauce, cooking the noodles.  It was worth it, however, as the dinner was outstanding, the scallops tender, the sauce perfect.  We watched various TV programs, lots of news, Andy Cohen, and This Is Us before ending the night with Vice News.  It was a good day back at the lake.
