I had to get out my sweats and fleece this morning because of the cool morning. It's 8:00 and the fog is starting to rise so that I can now see beyond the docks. A heron is feeding along the shoreline in front of our neighbor's dock. No kayaking this morning because I have an appointment with buddies to make sauerkraut with hundreds of pounds of cabbage.

Dunking For Breakfast |
Yesterday was a strange Labor Day, mostly because of the weather, and heavy winds that made boating difficult. I tried to get in a paddle but floated home after ten minutes of fighting the wind and waves. Once breakfast and the blog were over, we planned our day around having Linda and Ron over for ribs at 6:00. Evie worked in the kitchen preparing appetizers, dessert and ribs while I waded out into the lake with my rake and got rid of the weeds in front of our house that were gathering decayed weeds and muck. It took me a half hour and it worked because the lake looks much better this morning. After that fun, Evie needed a dozen ears of corn so I drove off to Lakewood, parked my car, and rode my bike for forty-five minutes along the back streets of Lakewood, both ways, north and south, getting in a good, safe ride despite the wind. Traffic is negligible and the road is flat so it's ideal for a bike ride. I drove up to Hunt Road to my favorite corn stand, picked up 13 ears of seven bucks and drove home.
Lunch was easy, the leftover pastitsio from the other night and I watched another episode of Justified. By early afternoon, we were mostly finished with prepping dinner and cleaning and organizing the house so we could relax. I napped of course and finished my Will Trent novel.
We showered late afternoon and were ready for a Labor Day picnic at 6:00. Fortunately, it was just warm enough to sit on the front porch and enjoy appetizers. Linda and Ron brought me birthday presents a few days early; the hit was 20 oz Bloody Mary glasses large enough to last me an afternoon.

We enjoyed Evie's corn fritters for an hour until the ribs were ready. Linda made her great potato salad and baked beans for sides so we had a feast. For dessert, we had peaches and blueberries to end a bizarre Labor Day, inside with few neighbors around to enjoy the day. They left around 9:30 and we cleaned up the kitchen before going up to bed.
