Windy, Gray, And Chilly

It's not very attractive out this morning, the flag stuck on the flag pole, the uneven icy lake surface, the air a chilly 26º, probably the high of the day. And my newspaper is in the side yard, a result of the wind gusts.

Hiking Rails To Trails

Thursday's weather was much like this morning although not as cold, with temperatures still in the 30's.  After our morning coffee and blog, we forced ourselves to contemplate a walk, deciding on Webb's Rails to Trails, a ten-minute drive away. Because it's an old train track, it's an easy stroll, no hills to speak of and we know it's a mile out, a mile back, with a slight downhill on the return. We met one lady on our walk who walks this trail every day because she leaves nearby.  We were out for forty-five minutes, an energetic walk and we felt good to have gotten in some exercise.

When we returned home, I heated up the vegetable soup, tasty and healthy, and Evie made me a couple of tuna sandwiches with tomatoes and onion, yum yum. I watched Episode 3 of Sopranos and enjoyed it a bit more.  The rest of the day for both of us rarely varies these days, as I read, napped or made a spot of tea, and Evie preps dinner or appetizers, reads or just plain relaxes watching some TV.  

We decided early in the morning to have a happy hour with heavy appetizers and then a light dinner. So we had two kinds of cheese, two kinds of crackers, hummus, nuts,  and carrots to feast on to go along with something new, a Black Manhattan, highly recommended by my son-in-law Drew. We replaced the vermouth with something called Amaro Averna from Sicily. The result was sinful and I fear it may become our new unhealthy and expensive obsession. We listened to music for a good hour, enjoying our libations and appetizers.  Dinner was easy, warming up the soup, having toast and a salad to go with it, ending the night with vanilla ice cream topped with my brother-in-law Rich's American Spoon Sour Cherries, also sinful. We watched the usual, HGTV, Jeopardy, and three episodes of Hot Ones, featuring Michael B, Jordan, Shaq, and Gordon Ramsey.
