Not A Very Nice Morning

8:45

Long Point In The Fog

It's 8:20 and I have been up for a couple of hours, watching the sky and lake turn gray, with a slow-moving fog, seagulls circling, a dusting of snow, and a fairly strong northerly wind. I don't think I will be hitting the water this morning as it's bone-chilling, damp, 30º, and windy.

We made it through New Year's Day pretty well, especially Evie. I did get in kayaking despite the heavy fog and had a leisurely morning, as Evie was in no hurry to get busy.  By 10:30, however, we were both up and at em, gathering the trash from a couple of weeks and I was off to the Transfer Station, my Outback filled with trash, hoping the Station was open on January 1st.  Fortunately, it was and busy with many residents like me, happy to get rid of holiday trash.

Neither one of us had much energy although Evie, despite feeling under weather because of Covid did more than me, alas.  Lunch was easy, just heat up the leftover chili and noodles and search for another series to watch on TV. It was a miserable day outside, cold and rainy most of the day, so we were both happy to huddle inside, watching Tammy Faye's Eyes, a fairly recent film on Tammy Faye Baker, the wife of disgraced Evangelist Jim Baker.  Jessica Chastain was amazing as Tammy Faye and we enjoyed watching the ridiculous world of Televangelists, those frauds who use their faith to take advantage of their gullible believers to support their luxurious lifestyles, Joel Osteen being the most recent example.

After my nap and film, Evie put together our dinner, Santa Fe chicken with sweet potatoes, chilis, and green sauce.  While it cooked, she also made dessert, an apple galette, a new, easy favorite.  I watched the first quarter of the Ohio State game but changed channels because it appeared they were going to get slaughtered.  I only found out this morning that they scored 48 points in a record-setting win. So I missed most of their comeback.

We were both hungry so the chicken dinner, with couscous and a salad, tasted good to both of us, and best of all, there's enough leftover for another dinner. We started a couple of films, neither of them grabbed us so we ended up watching Diners, Drive-Ins, And Dives, always fun and Home Improvement shows. It was not a very exciting New Year's Day but the good news is Evie seems to have a mild case of Covid.
