Quiet, Calm, And Overcast

6:45

A picturesque morning of gray clouds and reflections on the lake.  Not a whiff of wind, a motionless lake, like a mirror's surface, just waiting for my kayak to cut through.  It's 48º and we will have rain off and on during much of the day.

Sunday was another day where we spent part of the day or I should say Evie spent part of the day prepping our Sunday dinner with Linda and Ron.  It was a gray day, with brief showers on and off so that we felt good about having gotten most of the gardening done on Saturday.  After a leisurely morning and a paddle, I drove off to Wegman's to get the items I forgot to buy on my Saturday trip.  It was a Sunday morning of course, and Wegman's was very busy, either with shoppers after church or skipping church.  I only needed five items so I was able to get in and out quickly.

For breakfast, we had the leftover hash browns with fried eggs and a bagel and watched CBS Sunday morning.  For some reason, we skipped our usual walk around the Chautauqua Institution and we attribute it to the warm weather.  We would have been out there walking had it been snowing and cold, not wet and warm.  The afternoon went quickly, with Evie prepping the ham, the Brussels sprouts, and junk potatoes, aka as heavenly hashbrowns, as well as watching some of the Masters in between. I helped of course, mostly with cleaning up the kitchen.  By 4:00, all is was set except for the making of a pitcher of whiskey sours.

Linda and Ron arrived just after 6:00 and we quickly poured the whiskey sours into glasses and adjourned to the porch to enjoy the season's first artichoke.  Unfortunately, they had little heart and not much to enjoy on the tips so it was a good thing we had pretzels.  It was pleasant on the porch, with a noisy bumblebee nosing around our japonica.  Around 7:15, I carved the ham and Evie pulled the potatoes out of the oven and we were ready to serve ourselves.

Modern Chic

It was a throwback to the 50's dinner, with a ham and potatoes made with sour cream, corn flakes, and Campbell's cream of chicken soup.  Everything tasted good, especially with a bottle of wine from Linda.  For dessert, we had vanilla ice cream and strawberries topped with hot fudge sauce, a perfect ending to the evening.  They left for home in a light rain at 9:45 and we did up some of the dishes before going up to bed.
