Stir Crazy

Mallards Are Back

7:11

I am still shocked by the mornings lately of clear skies and sunshine.  I used to complain about Chautauqua gray but no more. We are now a country of eternal sunshine. It's 33º, cold enough to still get out on the lake and ice fish despite the slow thawing of the lake.

Saturday was Saturday, with lots of sunny skies and cool. We had our usual morning, coffee, blog, and breakfast and then the tough one, deciding what to do with our day, where to walk, what to eat.  We decided to walk our old standby, our favorite, Long Point State Park and as for dinner, we thought we might act crazy and go out to dinner again, two days in a row. While I gathered trash, Evie put the finishing touches on a chicken soup.  We then left for Long Point, stopping at the Transfer Station to drop off our trash. A couple of cars were parked at the end of Lakeside Drive, out for a walk like us.

Paths Of Ice

We were surprised by the trails which were still covered with a layer of ice, yet the woods were clear of ice and snow. The edges of the trails were free of ice so we stuck to them and decided on following some of the fat tire bike trails which we had never hiked before.  It was fun to see where they took us and at times, we were not sure where they were taking us but always, they returned to the major trail.  We were out for 70 minutes, slogging through trails of tree roots, no doubt a bumpy ride for a bike.

Spring Woods

We did not get home until 1:00, surprised that it was so late. I had a bowl of chicken soup and cheese sandwiches on rolls leftover from the Rod and Gun.  I watched a good part of the Ohio State/Michigan game while Evie drove to Linda's to drop off the soup and spend some time with her as she convalesces from her wrist surgery. I fell asleep watching the game but woke in time to see Ohio State luck out with a one-point win.

A 'Wow' Afternoon

We decided to go out for dinner and checked with one of our favorite restaurants, Brazill's On Main, in Westfield, to see if they had seating open at the bar.  They did so by 5:45, we were on our way to Westfield.  We were one of two couples at the bar in a restaurant that was probably 75% capacity.  We were happy at our seat, able to talk with the bartender but too far from the other couple for a conversation. We ordered the calamari, always our favorite, and it was a good choice.  I decided to have what I usually order, shortribs, with mushrooms, over mashed potatoes while Evie decided to go with an appetizer, fish tacos,  I think I made the better choice as Evie helped me finish both my Caesar salad and short ribs.  We enjoyed our evening but it's still not the same as the good old days, with a full bar and restaurant.

We were home by 8:00 in time to watch both a Cobert and Real Time With Bill Maher.  His diatribe on the difference between Chinese efficiency and our government's inability to get anything of importance done was right on, not that he's embracing Communism, just wishing we could marshall up the consensus to get things done like infrastructure.
