A Surprisingly Chilly 17º Morning

7:38

It's cold but sunny with clear, light blue skies. The ice continues to recede with a wide, ten-yard channel of open water along the shoreline. And, for the first time in weeks, no ice fishermen are out, perhaps signaling the end of the season.

Yesterday was sunny, again, but we never did get out for a walk.  Evie preferred to work in the kitchen, prepping for our movie and dinner with our Covid buddies, Linda and Ron.  Since we were not walking, I decided to get some yard work done and raked up deadfall for a good forty-five minutes, taking a couple of barrels up the hill as well as some tree limbs. It was a pleasantly crisp morning and I needed a couple of layers as well as a hat and gloves.  It felt good to be out doing something.

Tulips, Christmas Tree, Thawing Lake, Changing Seasons

By noon, Evie had the moussaka mostly ready as well as the table and a lemon meringue pie for our dinner.  So she was more than willing to fry up some potatoes and eggs for our breakfast. We watched CBS Sunday Morning and then Evie was able to relax some.  I read, tried to nap but spent a good part of the afternoon watching Ohio State lose to Illinois. Like a previous couple of days, yesterday was another beautiful afternoon, with lots of sun but with heavy winds.

Movie And Dinner

Our friends arrived at 5:00 and Evie had bowls of buttered popcorn ready as well as Pepsi's.  We were watching a film we had loved from 1996 called Big Night, about a failing Italian restaurant, starring Stanley Tucci, Ian Holm, Tony Shalhoub, and Minnie Driver.  The highlight was the celebratory Big Night when the chef made a spectacular Timpano, a complex baked pasta dish.  After the film, we relaxed with my special whiskey sours, sweetened with maple syrup, a favorite of Linda and Evie.  Dinner was a delicious moussaka, salad, and rolls, just right after stuffing our mouths with popcorn.

Yum And A Yum

We ended the evening with lemon meringue pie sitting in the living room, thinking of when we wanted to get together next as well as when L & R might feel comfortable going out to eat.  It may be a while yet.  After they left, I did up most of the dishes, letting Evie relax,  before we went up to bed.
