We Got Wind And 'Empty Bowls'

Happy Birthday To Our Daughter, Jill

A morning of wind gusts, rough lake, and wind chimes greets me this morning. It's going to be one of those days of hunkering down inside, as the rains and southerly wind will keep us inside much of the day. No kayaking this morning, alas.

Fredonia's Town Square

We had a busy Saturday morning, a relaxing afternoon.  The day started, as usual, with a good paddle, blog, and breakfast.  We then gathered the trash, cleaned out the refrigerator, and I was off to the Transfer Station by 9:30.  Each year in late November or early December, there is a benefit for the food pantry in Chautauqua County called Empty Bowls.  Potters from the area spend the year making bowls that they sell to benefit the Food Pantry.  We have participated in this event for the past five or six years, having accumulated lots of bowls.

Happy To Support Empty Bowls

This year was a bit different because it was held outside in the Fredonia parking lot.  We left for Fredonia at 11:00 and made the drive in just about a half-hour, thinking we had plenty of time because the event was to start at noon.  It was a good thing we were early because people were already browsing the bowls, some with boxes, to carry a number away.  Evie smartly brought a wicker basket and we browsed for 15 minutes, picking out over a hundred dollars worth of bowls, our donation to the pantry.  Usually, it's indoors and soup is served but not this year because of Covid19.

Harry Potter Fans

After putting the bowls in our car, we walked around town, stopping for coffee at a bizarre shop, with salespeople dressed up as Hogwarts.  We bought a coffee and two blue light bulbs, to support the local police I guess.  We took a long way home, always an enjoyable ride through the Chautauqua countryside.

Bowls Are Us

Lunch was tuna wraps with cucumbers, tomatoes, mustard, and mayo.  Yum.  I started a new series at the recommendation of my sister, Ellen, called Long Way Up.  It follows actor Ewan Mc Greger and his buddy Charley Boorman as they ride electric motorcycles from the southern tip of South America to Los Angeles. I finished episode one which basically chronicles their preparation for the trip, finding the right motorcycle (a Harley electric prototype), and planning the route.

The rest of the afternoon was spent as usual for me, some reading, a nap, more reading, and some TV although there was not much on other than 'breaking news' that was not breaking.  Evie attempted to sit outside in the sun but the wind soon drove her back inside.  Around 4:30, we went for a short walk through Victoria and home, to get some fresh air.  Around 5:00, Evie started prepping our dinner, breaded pork chops, salad, and Brussel sprouts.  Once the chops were browned and in the oven, she joined me for wine time until the chops were done.

Dinner was great, the chops tender, like the sprouts, and we were really hungry. We couldn't wait until it got dark because we turned our back porch blue with the blue light bulbs from Fredonia.  We also have a string of blue lights strung up on the porch, turning our porch into the blue room, signifying nothing.  After a depressing Real Time With Bill Maher, we finished the first season of The Hour and started the second season.  We finished the cherry pie for dessert and ended the night with an HGTV program.
