Joy To The World

Hallelujah

It's 9:00 and I paddled on another great morning, as I am running out of superlatives to describe the last week at the lake.  I was out for 70 minutes, kayaking north to Whitney Bay and back, into the blinding sun,  For some reason, seagulls littered the lake, hundreds of them, floating rags on a blue lake. I listened to CSPAN call in from 6:30 to 7:00, listening to people explain why they voted for Trump makes you despair for the United States and Democracy.

Kayak Morning

Yesterday was an exciting morning, especially just before noon when Biden was declared the next President of the United States.  Finally, we could relax and Evie could get in a good night's sleep.  Before the announcement, we had our typical Saturday morning, with an early paddle, blog, then gathering trash to take to the Transfer Station.  I also got in a bike ride, over to  Bemus and Long Point, the same as the day before.  Unfortunately, I decided to take one of the fat tire bike trails through the park and it was filled with tree roots, bridges, dips, and doodles, so I had a bumpy, tiring ride.  When I got back on the hiking trail, I breathed a sigh of relief.

A Long Point Bike Ride

Around 12:30, I had lunch, the leftover cheesy cauliflower, and crackers with pepperoni.  I watched CNN and MSNBC, listening to the pundits discuss the finality of the polls, also cutting to the excitement felt by Biden supporters in cities all over the US.  I have to admit we were ready to join them if we could.  I then read some, took a brief nap until 2:30 when we joined our neighbors, Jim and Barb, and celebrated at the Big Inlet Brewery in Mayville, with hundreds of other happy beer drinkers. They also had a band playing but we did not pay much attention to them, too excited about a new day in America.

Where's The Beer

We were home by 4:30, briefly relaxed, changed into something warmer and went over to our other neighbors, Joe and Betsy's, along with Jim and Barb, and celebrated once again in their yard around a bonfire, as the sky darkened, the stars and moon came out. It was a fun way to end the afternoon and begin the early evening, with like-minded folks.

We were home by 8:00, still hungry so Evie fried up some Italian sausages which hit the spot.  We stayed with the news for the rest of the night, enjoying the crowds of Biden supporters celebrating all over the United States and the world.  Biden has a lot of work to do in figuring out how to bring back the working class, mostly Trump supporters,  to the Democratic party.  That should be his main goal.  It will mean more than compromising but reevaluating his party's ideas over the past 30 years that led to the loss of these voters.
