Only A Fool Waters When It Snows |

It's just after 8:00 and I have been kayaking for just over an hour, having gotten on the lake before 7:00, hoping to avoid the wind. I paddled down to the Power Boat Club and back and saw lots of turkey vultures and crows, a few leftover buffleheads, and mallards. It was good to be out on the lake, 35º and little if any wind.

Sun And Blue Skies |
Yesterday was unlike any May Day that I remember as snow on and off all day, the sky clouding up, pellets falling, and then it would clear up for twenty minutes before clouding up again. The wind, too, was gusty, making for a difficult and short morning paddle. After kayaking, I decided to water the bare spots in our lawn and as I did, it started to snow so I am not sure I was doing much good but I kept at it.

A Snowy Long Point Trail |
For some reason, Evie and I like this weather, the wind, the snow hitting our faces, so after our coffee and blog, we gathered the trash, dropped it off at the Transfer Station and drove over to Bemus and walked out to the tip of Long Point and back. We walked as small round ice pellets called graupel hit our face, fell on the ground. The wind was also strong, so we did not linger once we arrived at the tip.

Fire Engines Testing Their Hoses |
We followed for some reason by twenty or thirty small birds, feeding on the path, flying off as we walked. We were not sure what they were, perhaps barn swallows, or some other small birds. We walked only a mile but that was enough in the graupel and cold. Afterward, we felt righteous, like we had done something big although it was just a walk in the wind and snow!

Loving The Last Of Winter |
By the time we returned, it was lunchtime, so Evie made me a couple of cheese sandwiches on her homemade bread and I finished up the last of the lentil soup. Not to fear, as I finished it up another pot of hambone and bean soup was simmering on the stove for the next couple of days lunches. The rest of the afternoon was a waste as far as getting something done. It was too ugly outside to do anything, with the combination of cold and rain or snow. So we read, napped, watched some TV until it was cocktail time at 5:30.

Mid Afternoon Sunshine |
Evie heated up some boreks she had made a few weeks ago and froze. They are phyllo dough triangles stuffed with either feta cheese or chicken and they are delicious. I made us a Manhattan and we watched the weather continue to change and listened to some of our favorites, Leonard Cohen, Dave Brubeck, a jazz playlist, and the soundtrack to Pretty Little Lies, quite an eclectic group of songs. Dinner was the leftover koftes and sumac sour cream sauce, leftover from Friday night's dinner and we watched Real Time With Bill Maher, Colbert, and Cheers before deciding it was time for bed.
