Waiting For The Snow Storm

7:02
It's 7:30 and Evie actually was up before me, waking at 7:00.  It's overcast, windless morning and 36º.  The forecasters suggest we may get anywhere from 3-10 inches in the next twenty-four hours although the brunt of the storm should be tonight.  My show shovels have been out for a month so I am ready for it. I was able to get out on the water for 25 minutes but saw only mallards, a few seagulls.

Kayak Morning
A Straggler
Yesterday went quickly for both of us, beginning as usual with a paddle for me, then coffee and the blog with Evie.  We were having Ron and Linda over for dinner, so Evie wanted to finish off the dessert, a Lisbon cake before we went for a walk.  That took close to an hour for whipping the gnache to the right consistency and spreading it on the chocolate cake.  Once she was done, we drove over to the Chautauqua Institution for our walk.  The leaves on the ground had fallen, the gardens were cut back, the hydrangeas cut and sitting in the streets for pick up.  Just as we crossed Thunder Bridge, we were FaceTimed by our daughter Jill and son Tom, both in Nashville to celebrate Jill's 50th birthday and attend the Titans/Chiefs NFL game.  They were in a bar already at 11:00 in the morning, continuing their weekend celebration. I hope the Chiefs loss did not spoil it.  We walked a couple of miles, were out for forty-five minutes and it was around 40º, perfect for a walk

Brick Walk To Thunder Bridge
We were home later than usual, at 1:15 and Evie quickly made our breakfast, eggs and sourdough bagels and we ate watching the beginning of the Browns and Bills game, a local rivalry.  I stuck it out and watched the entire game, fairly boring as neither team played particularly well and I started out cheering for the Browns but by the end, I hoped the Bills would win because the Browns were so inept, their modus operandi this year.

Around 4:30 Evie started prepping dinner, sauteeing shrimp and scallops and making a sauce with lemon, butter, and dry vermouth.  And just before they arrived at 6:00, she baked some of her special appetizers, Buffalo chicken eggrolls, which she made a couple of weeks earlier and froze.  Dinner was great, one of my favorites, the scallops, shrimp and sauce over linguini, with a salad and rolls.  We ended the night in the living room with a piece of the Lisbon chocolate cake, a sinful dessert followed by a small glass of cherry ice wine from Johnsons Winery, a local winery in Westfield.  It was a good way to end the night. Evie sent them home with a couple of pieces of the cake for their dessert whenever.  We did up a few of the dishes but left the rest for this morning, to whooped finish up.
