A Summer Like Morning Sky

6:38

Sun Rising At 7:23

7:44
I was up at 6:30, the sky turning pink, the lake smooth, reminding me for some reason of a summer morning.  Go figure.  Lots of geese still gather around our lakefront and we often go to bed listening to their honking and wake up to it as well.

Kayak Morning

Paddling Towards The Sunrise

Sunrise Among The Reeds
Yesterday was another carpet wrangling day for us.  We still have not yet decided on a new one.  Other than that, it was a typical day for me.  I kayaked early on a gray wet day but still, it felt great.  I then drove to yoga and joined two others to a good class with Jen, recovering from having hit her head on her surfboard while out surfing on Lake Eire, crazy gal.  After class, I stopped for coffee, chewed the fat with locals for a bit then headed home,

Evie had been busy, cleaning up after the carpet guys and listening to the impeachment hearings.  She left for a doctor's appointment at 12:30 and I heated up my lunch, the leftover diner meal of meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy.  I watched another episode of Jack Ryan and read, waiting for a carpet guy to arrive and remeasure our house.  He was supposed to get it done around 1:00, send the measurements to Home Depot where Evie would be waiting to finalize our new carpet. Well, he didn't arrive until Evie had returned home.  It took him about a half-hour to get it done, too late for us to talk with Home Depot.  Maybe it was a good thing because Evie returned home with another swatch of carpets, our third swatch since Monday.  Decisions!  So we will both go to Home Depot today around noon, choose a carpet, and see how much it will cost after all the hassle of the past few days.  Around 4:30 and went out for a half-hour hike in our woods, walking under an overcast sky, a woods no longer covered with snow, the paths strewn with brown leaves.

The Leaves Of Late Fall

Woodlawn, Later Afternoon
Earlier, Evie had roasted some eggplant in the oven and made a small batch of ratatouille.  I had bought what seemed to be a boned half of leg of lamb for dinner.  Evie had marinated it overnight, then baked it in the oven, Greek-style.  We were not sure how it would turn out but it was great, just like a good leg of lamb, just not as much.  Evie pulled it out around 6:00, let it sit while she made roasted potatoes and a salad.  It was a great dinner,  eggplant and lamb, both Turkish favorites, compliment each other.  We watched Colbert, two more quite good episodes of The Crown, and some of the Democratic debate.  And we watched the two radically different interpretations of Thursday's impeachment hearings, one on CNN, the other on Fox News.  It's hard to believe they were watching the same hearings their takes were so different.  It's like there are two parallel worlds, two parallel realities although one is lying.   Your pick depends on your politics, not reality.
