A Walk Around The Chautauqua Instiution

It's a spectacular morning, a mostly orange sky with puffs of slender gray clouds floating over the Bemus shoreline.  It's a chilly 39º,  a few fishing boats are out already and a line of ducks, gray smudges, floated by.  What a great morning for kayaking, steam rising, sun rising, on a calm lake.  I paddled down to Booty Bay and back, caught a great blue heron in the reeds, and scared off rafts of ducks as there are no migrating birds yet.

Yesterday was a Sunday to remember when we are sitting in our living room in January.  Lots of sunshine, temperatures reaching the 60's and warm enough for Evie to sit out on the dock.  I started the day with a paddle, across to Long Point, to Sandy Bottom and back, scared off the shore at Sandy by duck hunters.  It felt good to be back out on the lake even if I saw little wildlife.  After writing the blog, we decided it would be a good day to go for a walk around the Chautauqua Institution.  We were right as the colors were good, reds, golds, oranges, as the walk was a canvas of color.  We walked for an hour, taking one photograph after another.

We were home by 12:30, both hungry, so Evie quickly put together an omelet with potatoes, mushrooms, and tomatoes and toasted a sourdough bagel, something new from Wegmans which is quite nice.  We seem back in our routine, then, on a Sunday, a walk through the CI, a big breakfast and watching CBS Sunday Morning, always good.  After breakfast, we both enjoyed our leisure, Evie out on the dock, me inside, watching some of the Bills game, reading and taking a catnap.  By 3:30, we were both up and at them.  First, Evie prepped dinner, a request from me, one of my childhood favorites, chicken paprikash on noodles.  After the prep, Evie fired up the lawnmower and chopped the leaves, cut the lawn.  I began the task of emptying our garage attic of junk, making three piles, one to keep, one to throw away, on to give to helping hands. The reason I am doing this is the garage ceiling needs some shoring up before it collapses.

We enjoyed a glass of wine around 6:00 and the chicken paprikash was baking in the oven.  Evie served it over wide noodles, with lots of the gravy, with a side of cauliflower and a Portuguese roll for dipping.  We rewatched the last episode of Crashing, then started for the second time Succession.  We were put off by it the first time but since it has gotten great reviews for the second season we decided to give it another try. Bed sounded good after a busy day.
