Morning Sun

6:45

6:50
It's just after 7:00 and I have been since 6:20, just before the sun rose.  It's chilly, feels great actually because I have my fleece on for the first time in months.  It was a great morning to kayak, a few fishing boats but a couple of paddleboarders as well as a couple of kayakers.

Kayak Morning

Osprey In The Morning
Friday was a great fall-like day, lots of sunshine, cool temperatures and a 10-15 mile breeze most of the day.  I paddled for a half-hour before driving off to yoga with Julie, a good class because there were only three of us.  After class,  I sat and talked with Dave, the resident guy at Ryder's Coffee.  He's always there, lives a few doors down, is about my age and has no car which I find interesting.  We always talk about the good old days, sometimes along with Bob who owns the bookstore, also part of the house where both are located.

The afternoon went quickly for me, as usual, quesadillas for lunch and I watched my show.  Evie had been busy inside in the morning tackling our pantry, a mess since mid-August after our family went home.  For a good couple of weeks, we just put things in there and let them stack up, thinking we would organize the pantry later.  After lunch, I finished my book A DANGEROUS MAN, started a new one but fell asleep before I could get into it, a book I have always wanted to read by Marilyn Robinson, GILEAD.  I am not sure what to think of it because it's not a thriller, no bad guys, no murder, no spies, just a serious minister writing down his thoughts for his son.

Midafternoon Evie decided to do what she likes to do best, mow the lawn.  It was a good day for it, cool and sunny and she was in her element.  I didn't do much, just read and sat outside reading until 5:00.  Our new "best friends" were unable to come over because of miscommunication.  We decided, then, to go out for a fish fry at the Rod and Gun.  As usual, we could hardly find a place to park and had an hour wait for a table.

Beer For Two From Our Barkeeper
We almost left after our first beer to go somewhere else but a couple sat down next to Evie and we ended up talking with them until we were called for dinner.  Like us, they have lived here most of their life.  Both are in their 80's and live in an RV in Frewsburg during the summer, in a manufactured home in Florida the rest of the time.  Jim was a high school athlete, played some pro baseball before becoming a football and basketball referee for the next forty-two years.  Impressive.  I even bought them a drink, thinking it's always smart to be nice to the referee.  He had some good stories about his refereeing life.  His wife was also interesting, having worked at the Atheneum Hotel's desk for ten years.

Having Fun
It was one of the few times we have really had a chance to get to know a couple at the Rod and Gun's bar because it's usually so busy.  We had our fish fry dinner and our waitress didn't realize that we had been at the Forte bar the night before along with her and a friend.  She apologized saying she had three cosmopolitans at the Casino before arriving and was not exactly conscious at the bar.  Pretty funny. When we got home, it was time for peach/blueberry pie with ice cream before going up to bed to read.
