Another spectacular morning sunrise, of reds, pinks, oranges, and yellows, following last night's super moon.  It's another frosty morning, windshields iced over, a winter like 28º.  It's 7:36 and the sun is just starting to rise above Wells Bay, off to the south.  The lake is calm, a few ripples, and no duck hunters out yet.

Kayak Morning
It's 8:40 and I just returned from a frosty, short paddle over to the reeds and back.  I did spot a raft of mallards, still hanging out despite the cold.

Mallards
Yesterday was another fine Sunday in December, temperatures in the 40's, lots of sunshine, and not a lot we had to do.  We had a nice breakfast, bacon and buttermilk pancakes with my nephew Richie and his wife Sally.  They headed home around 11:00 and we were sad to see them go.

We then cleaned up the kitchen, straightened up the downstairs and decided to go for a walk around the Chautauqua Institution, getting back into our Sunday routine.  It was a  crisp, sunny day for a walk, and we enjoyed it until Evie's sciatica acted up out of the blue.  So we cut it short and came straight up.  Fortunately, the sciatica calmed down and Evie was able to enjoy the afternoon.  We thought it was brought on by walking up some hills.

We did not do much the rest of the afternoon.  I watched some football, took a nap and Evie watched some TV and did some things around the house.  Around 3:30, we worked on a pork shoulder we had placed in the freezer for an hour.  We had read about a recipe on the NY Times for pork gyros and we decided to try it.  So I carved the pork shoulder into half-inch slices and Evie put half of it in a marinade, froze the rest for the next time.  We will then bake the slices in the oven tonight for dinner and crisp them, before making gyros.  It will be interesting to see how they work out.  Evie also took the remaining pork bone and put it in our slow cooker overnight so we will have a nice broth for soups.

5:30 PM
After taking photographs of the supermoon, we drove over to Bemus, to a local restaurant called Guppy's, to see our good friends Linda and Ron for dinner.  We had not seen them in a month because of our travels, so it was good to see them and to catch up on both of our lives.  All four of us had burgers and fries, a couple of beers, so we were happy with our meals, to be together again.  We got home around 9:00, the lake and sky bright from the amazing full moon.

8:45 PM
We then watched an episode from CBS Sunday morning on Istanbul's Turkish desserts, a trip back to the past, then Saturday Night Live before going up to bed to read.
