A Bit Of A Melt

7:15

Warner Bay Homes,  Early Morning,  7:16
It's 7:40 and warming up, already a 35º.  The sky is gray, of course, the lake a sheet of metal gray, and when I went outside to take a morning photo, I could hear the drip-drip of melting snow, quite a difference from yesterday mornings cold. I think I am back to normal, waking at 6:00 on the dot, ready for the day.

Sunday was mostly typical yesterday.  We had a leisurely wake-up, listening to the news, enjoying a long coffee, reading the newspaper, really glancing at it, then deciding on what to do with our day.  Our car was iced up, that's one thing I knew.  Nevertheless, we decided on a short hike at Long Point State Park.  So I fired up the Subaru, with all the heaters on, and ten minutes later, the ice had melted and we were ready for bear.

Long Point Trail
We were not up to our usual hour and a half walk, so we parked by the Marina and walked out to the tip of Long Point and back, on a rough, choppy, snow-covered trail.  It took us about 35 minutes and by the time we got back, we were happy to jump in our car and go home.  It was enough after of week of 'staying in.'

A Big Cat Enjoys The Chilly Morning

View From Lakeside Drive
One of my reasons for the walk was the promise of a big breakfast when we returned.  So Evie got out the eggs, bacon, and bread and quickly made breakfast.  We both devoured it, obviously hungry and we watched CBS Sunday Morning, once again it reinforced our belief that it's one of the best shows on TV.  We love its variety and it's rarely about politics, a relief from the usual news programs.  We always feel good after watching it, especially the end which is a brief clip of the natural world, featuring three of our favorite waterfowl, herons, cormorants, and hooded mergansers.

I took a nap afterward, falling asleep reading my John Sandford thriller.  Evie seemed happy to take it easy as well, to put aside all the things she wanted to get done and just take a day off.  Midafternoon, we decided on an easy dinner, a pizza from Coppola's in Bemus Point.  I watched some football briefly, soon bored by it, knowing that I would want to watch the 'big game,' Pittsburgh vs New England at 4:30.  So I drove over to Bemus and picked up the pizza around 4:45, not worrying about the start of the game at 4:30 because we had it saved.  It's the best way to watch a game because we can fast forward through the annoying commercials.  We watched the entire game, for once, having our pizza and salad, during the second half.  For whatever reason, we both loved our dinner, the pizza, the salad.  It hit the spot, with a Pepsi, of course.  The Steelers lost, to the dismay of most Chautauquans, but had a chance to win it at the end.

We ended the night with a boring episode four of The Crown, as most of the episode was spent on the life of Elizabeth's younger sister, Margaret, and her quest for a suitable man.
