Easy Monday

6:31

6:56

6:57
What a difference between mornings.  Yesterday I woke up to a cityscape, gray clouds, some rain and this morning, it's a bright and shiny morning on the lake.  It's good to be back.  I was up at 6:25 and was able to see a pink sky morning just before the sun rose.  A few skiers are out already, at 7:00, taking an advantage of a windless morning, a flat lake. It' 9:40 and I have been back from kayaking for a half hour.  I ended up talking to a  couple of our neighbors as I made my way down Woodlawn before heading across the lake to Long Point.
Kayak Morning
We left Akron around 9:30 yesterday morning and stopped at a surprisingly quiet Trader Joe's on Chagrin Blvd in a suburb of Cleveland.  We stocked up on all our goodies, a couple of cases of wine, a couple of our favorite cheeses, three packs of my favorite granola as well as whatever caught our eye.  We love Trader Joe's and wish it were closer.  Maybe it's a good thing it isn't or I might be broke from shopping.  We stopped at Love's Truck Stop, as we usually do, hoping to get cheaper gas and a sandwich from Mc Donalds.  As we drove into Chautauqua County, we noticed lots of dark clouds and wet roads as it obviously just rained.  We pulled into our road and it was filled with puddles.

An Abundance Of Jerusalem Artichokes
We knew it was supposed to rain while we were gone but two and a half inches in our rain gauge was crazy.  The garden, the lawn, everything looked greener, more healthy because we have needed a good rain like this for weeks.  We quickly unpacked and relaxed, happy to be back at the lake.  It was not a particularly nice afternoon. windy, overcast, with an occasional light rain but it did not discourage our neighbors from bringing in their docks, a sign of the end of summer for many weekenders for sure.

Around 4:00, Evie started making an upside down peach cake with creme Fraiche which she had read about in the New York Times.  It was surprisingly easy and fast to make and we could not wait till it was done to give it a taste.  Yum.  Dinner could not come too fast.

4:32
We enjoyed some of TJ's cheese and for a change, a Vodka Collins around 6:00, as the sky continued to looking threatening, filled with gray clouds.

Almost Dusk at 7:56
Dinner was really good, baked potatoes and a New York strip done perfectly on the stove on a grill pan.  Why are some steaks so tender and tasty, others tough and tasteless?  We watched CBS Sunday morning and then American Masters, a retrospective on filmmaker Richard Linklater, one of our favorite film makers, a true prodigy as he made his first film in his 20's in Austin, TX, called the SLACKERS, followed by DAZED AND CONFUSED.  And he made one of Evie's favorites, SCHOOL OF ROCK.   We must have seen it at least five or six times with our grandchildren.

No worry about dinner as we are invited over to Linda and Ron's for a Labor Day dinner.  Yippee.
