A Drab Saturday Morning

7:16

Nothing but  gray when I woke up at 6:20 although the lake was relatively calm.  It's a chilly 50º and won't get much warmer until next week. It may rain some today or tomorrow but because I had just seeded a good part of our back yard, it won't rain.  It just works like that.

Bass Boats Are Back
Yesterday was pretty much the same as Thursday.  I went to yoga at 9:30, six of us laboring to find our OM with not much luck.  It was also time return the recyclable cans at the can man, where kids separate the cans from plastic and give you five cents for each can/bottle.  I made as easy five bucks, then went to the bank, tried to deposit a check at the ATM but it would not take it, so I had to go inside to deposit it, no explanation.

Red Bellied Woodpecker
When I got home, the bread was out of the oven, resting and cooling.  And the anti-weed queen was back at it, in the seemingly endless task of weeding/clearing out the garden.  I got out a shovel and helped dig out some of the more recalcitrant plants which tend to take over a garden and put them under our pines to see if they will grow.  Doubtful because of a lack of sun.  By 1:00, I had enough shoveling, so I came in and heated up the last of the matzo ball soup and ate the other half of the hoagie/sub from the Lighthouse.  And I watched the final episode of Season 2 of Spiral.  And Samy is saved at the last minute from the drug dealers, to return for another season.  I thought the writers were going to kill him off.  At 3:00, after showering for the first time since we shocked out well, Evie drove to the Mayville Health Center to get a blood test but because they could not draw blood for a B6 test, she had to forgo it and go to  a WCA clinic next week which means another trip to Lakewood.

We were at sixes and sevens as to whether to eat in or go out for a fish fry, so I took 'the bull by the horns' and said we are going out.  We left just before 6:00, thinking we might beat the crowd  to the Rod and Gun Club and we were right.  We found a seat at the bar just as was beginning to fill up. And to our surprise, old friends from Busti, Sam and Donna, walked in and sat down across from us. We have not seen them in quite a while so it was good to see them and we eventually ended up eating dinner together, fish fries of course.  We caught up on our lives, our children, and grandchildren and both of us have a grandson graduating from college in a couple of weeks.  It was fun to see them.

We got home around 8:45 and watched bits and pieces of TV, an NBA game, CNN and MSNBC, and Vice News before heading upstairs to read.

Today my boat goes in, about as early as ever.  Let's hope the lake remains calm and it warms up soon so we can start cruising.
