Super Bowl Sunday

7:37

8:17
An interesting morning, listening to CSPAN discuss Trump's vow to eliminate the Johnson Amendment which most of us, me included, never heard of until recently.  The amendment basically embraces our founders belief in the division between church and state by forbidding churches from bringing politics into the place of worship.  Churches are no place for political rallies.   I strongly agree with this amendment and wonder why Trump, a faux Christian, suddenly wants to do away with it.  Perhaps the influence of Mike Pence, a passionate evangelical Christian conservative. Anyways, that's my mind this morning.  Outside, all I see is the white lake, a number of dots, fishing guys out on he lake, no snowflakes, and 26, 10º higher than yesterday morning. as we begin warming up again.

1:05
Yesterday was a fine winter Saturday on the lake, as we started the morning with our usual relaxing Saturday morning, wondering what to do with our day.  We decided to cross country ski (me) or snow shoe (Evie) Long Point.  So we quickly organized the house and kitchen and I drove off to the Transfer Station, to get rid of our trash.  We parked at the end of Lakeside Drive, put on our skis and shoes, and were off.  It was like skiing in a winter wonderland, the trails snow covered, with puffs of snow on the tree limbs.

Enjoying The Return Of Winter
For once, we ran into a few others skiing or snow shoeing.  And just as we got out of the woods, ten snowmobiles raced by, ruining the quiet and sacredness of the woods.  O, well, at least we were able to enjoy most of our morning.   We decided to cut our hike short and not head out to the tip of Long Point because it was getting too windy.

Leaning Tower
We were home by 1:00, happy with ourselves for getting out.  Lunch was easy, heating up the leftover chicken curry and making a small pot of rice.  I watched the end of another episode of Wallander, then napped, and finally watched Kansas lose a home game to Iowa State, much to my son Tom's dismay I am sure.  Evie, meanwhile, was playing disk jockey on Sonos, listening to one group of songs after another, making up playlists for all occasions.  She was one happy lady.  So we did little all afternoon until around 5:00 when we showered and got ready to drive to our friends, Linda and Ron, for dinner.

Friends
We always look forward to this and Linda did not disappoint.  We had a great beef burgundy on mashed potatoes, salad, and for  dessert, a lemon chiffon pie.  We had a beer before dinner, wine during, and the pie to end of the evening.  We headed home around 9:45, fat and happy after a great night.  I was ready to go upstairs to read but Evie stayed up and watched some TV for an hour, her quiet time.

In his own words: "I will get rid of and totally destroy the Johnson Amendment [banning political endorsements by churches] and allow our representatives of faith to speak freely and without fear of retribution. I will do that -- remember."
