Saturday Morning In Darien

 Mitch Sitting the Bench

Frosting Cupcakes

It seems like I wake up every morning around 5:00 recently, when the sun begins to filter in the bedroom, when the birds start to sing.  So, I am sitting here alone, looking out the window at the huge rhododendron, the trees just beginning to leaf.  They have a new coffee pot, one of those that grinds then brew and of course, it's not working correctly, the first time it ground the coffee but did not brew it.  I started over, it ground, then brewed, but the coffee is weak, as not enough ground coffee got into the filter.  Starbucks is five minutes away!

We drove from the lake to Darien yesterday, leaving around 7:15, getting here around 3:00, taking us longer than usual because of traffic and numerous stops.  It was surprising how, in some areas, the trees were still not in leaf though as we got close to Darien, many of the trees on the hillsides were green, the amazing lime color of green in the spring.  We drove in the driveway just as Marisa was coming home from school, so she hopped in the car, for a ride up to the house.  Tyler and Beth were both home, so it was great to see them.
Ready to Play

Although Mitch had been home sick the past two days, he was dressing for the varsity volleyball game so we went to watch his team play at Darien High School.  The varsity lost in five games, the final one, 15-13, so they were as close to winning as they could be.  We met a number of the team's parents, all really pleasant, as well as Mitch's teammates, again, great kids, so friendly and polite.  And they treat Mitch like a peer, even though he's only a freshmen, which made us feel good.  Mitch did not get to play but his teammates all were encouraging, telling him he should have played, and emphasizing how how good he will be in a couple of years.  Neat kids.  Their coach is in the high school Hall of Fame, has won at least ten state titles in volleyball, both with the boys and girls.

We had Evie's lasagna for dinner, with a salad and garlic bread, and we devoured it.  Unfortunately, Tyler was at a buddies house playing his guitar and Rami did not get home from work until 8:00, just in time to have some warmed up lasagna.  We played some games with Marisa, but Evie and I were really tired, having gotten up before 5:00 yesterday morning, so we put Marisa to bed  and we also went to be around 10:00.

Today, Beth goes off to an all day landscape painting glass; I may do some yoga at the near by Elements Yoga Studio.  I have been to the teacher, Robert's class before and like him, as he's about my age.  And of course we will make a Costco run for Evie.  It looks like a great day for a hike or walk as well.
