Walking And X Country Skiing With The Fat Tire Bike Club

7:48
It's another what's become a typical late fall morning, a cold 24º, gray skies, partially frozen lake and a snow-covered lawn, not that I am complaining.  I thought about kayaking but I am not sure if the shoreline is open and didn't feel like dodging ice floes.

Blue Skies And Lake
Yesterday turned out to be a great Sunday here at the lake.  What a difference blues skies and sun can make in one's mood.  Like any morning but more so yesterday because it was the weekend and had no yoga, we extended our coffee into mid-morning, watching the wildlife, taking photos from our front porch.  And we were amazed to see tundra swans once again, a mess of them as well as rafts of redheads, mallards, and buffleheads.

Around 11:00, however, we decided to ski/walk Long Point Park again since we enjoyed it so much on Saturday.  It was a little colder than Saturday but a beautiful sunny day, with light blue skies, a dark blue lake.  We were halfway down the trail when a herd (20 or 30) of fat tire bikers cruised by, also enjoying the great day.  We ended up talking with two couples, one from Sinclairville, one from Warren.  We found out it was supposedly Fat Tire Bike Day, thus all the bikes out on the trails.  It was cool seeing all of them and it didn't bother us at all.  We also saw a couple other X country skiers as well as people walking their dogs so all of us must have had the same idea.  Get out of the house and enjoy the sun and snow and cold.  We love winter.

Biking In The Snow
We were home by 12:30 and Evie had the bacon frying by 12:35, the start of our big breakfast. Yum. We are creatures of habit so we watched CBS Sunday Morning as we ate our breakfast of fried potatoes, bacon and fried eggs on top of toast.  By the time we were through, the football games were on but I preferred to listen to the Browns game on the radio, read some, and eventually nap.  Evie worked on Christmas cards in the TV room, occasionally watching something on TV.  That's the way we spent the rest of the afternoon, writing cards, reading and watching some football late afternoon.

Tundra Swans Still Hanging Around
We felt like living it up, going out somewhere for dinner and thought about Alexander's on Findlay Lake but Evie read a few questionable reviews, so we decided on something closer, across the lake in Bemus, the Bemus Point Golf Club & Tap House.  Although it was surprisingly expensive, we enjoyed sitting at the bar, talking with the waitress.  Earlier, we had complained about how noisy it was and unfortunately, there was a loud and boisterous group of five or six at the bar, downing shots, forced us to move to the other end of the bar.  Evie loved her burger and fries and my Philly cheese steak was just average.  It was good, however, to get out of the house and take in a restaurant.  We were home by 7:30 and watched some TV, a boring SNL, then an exciting Woman's Regional Volleyball Final we had taped from Saturday night, as Stanford beat Penn State 3-1.  The Semi-Finals are on Thursday night on ESPN so I don't want to miss them.  As I mentioned in yesterday's blog, it was a good way to end another fine day on Chautauqua Lake.
