First X Country Skiing For Me, Winter Walking For Evie

Evie's Back

8:38
It's almost 8:00 on a cold, 21º morning.  There's a thin skin of ice that reaches out forty or fifty yards then the lake is open.  When I went outside to take a morning photograph, I could hear the sounds ducks, geese, swans, whatever, in the distance but could not see them.

Saturday was a really fun day as both of us got out of the house and did something.  Not that our morning differed much from past weekends.  We took our time with our coffee, working on the blog, then getting things ready for my trip to the Transfer Station.  I returned from it about 11:00 and Evie was ready to go for her first walk in the woods since her operation.  Earlier, I had pulled my cross-country skis down from the attic. I waxed them, put them in our car and we drove over to the Long Point Marina.

We decided to walk out to the Point and back because it was a fairly short hike.  It was a perfect snowfall for skiing or hiking and Evie was exhilarated to put outside, in the woods, hiking in the cold and snow.  I don't blame her after being a shut-in for close to seven weeks.  We were out around 40 minutes, pausing of course to take a few photos, even a selfie at the tip of Long Point.

Happy To Be Out In The Snow And Cold
We were home around 12:30, time for my lunch.  I pulled the leftover, leftover chili out of the refrigerator and it still looked and smelled fine.  So I microwaved it, topped it with Frank's hot sauce and crushed chips and I had a tasty lunch.  I watched some basketball and football but soon was bored, so I went upstairs to read and fell asleep of course.

At 2:30, we drove off to the Lakewood Mall because a good friend's granddaughter was participating in ballet near the Sears store.  The local ballet group had set up some folding chairs in the mall and put on a twenty-five-minute program, the Snowflake dance from the Nutcracker, the first part for the novices, the second for the more experienced. It was a nice way to spend a half hour and the girls were delightful to watch.

Prima Ballerina
The prima ballerina was extraordinary for being a senior in high school, and she has danced with the Chautauqua Ballet Company in the summer.  We decided to pass up the fries at Five Guys and came straight home, alas. No unhealthy or fattening fries for us.

We had decided earlier to not fuss with dinner but make the best of the leftover chicken marsala.  Evie also roasted some cauliflower and red potatoes while we relaxed with a good cheese, crackers and a Manhattan or two, a weekend luxury.  Dinner was great, chicken, cauliflower, potatoes and a salad.  We watched some Colbert but ended the night watching an exciting Women's Volleyball Regional Final, in Provo, Utah, as BYU defeated Texas in three hard fought games.  It was a great way to end the day.
