Cloud Bank Sits Above Long Point

I was up at 5:30, lay in bed trying to decide whether to get up or try to get some more sleep so here I am, writing my blog an hour later, waiting for the sun to rise above the clouds.  It's a typical Monday morning, a quiet lake, the only action seagulls flying by, their squawking, annoying in the morning quiet.  It's now 6:47 and the sun has just risen above the cloud bank.  Since I have finished writing, I will go out for a paddle and let Evie sleep in.

Fallen Dahlia Petals
Yesterday was another classic summer day, highs in the 80's but a nice wind to keep us cool out on the dock.  I got in a long, early paddle before a granola, blueberry and banana breakfast, my usual.  Evie wanted  to water our privets so we set up the sump pump in the lake and began the process, letting the water run for a couple of hours, occasionally moving the hose.  Since Austin, our jack of all trades, will be coming this morning to shore up our garage, I cleaned it out so he would have an easier time working.  It will be interesting to see how difficult this job will be.  He seemed to think it would take a day or two.  Let's hope so.  Around 12:30, we both took a timeout for a breakfast burrito and sat on the front porch, eating our breakfast, enjoying the view, the busy lake.

Afternoon Clouds
Most of the afternoon Evie sat under her umbrella on the dock reading, but I divided my time between a book, watching the PGA and the dock.  The lake was as busy as we have ever seen it on a non-holiday weekend, as it seemed that everyone who had a boat was out for a cruise except us.  We like to cruise during the week when there's no boat traffic.  Around 3:00, I set up a table in our backyard and then both Evie and I put a coat of polyurethane on the rocks our family painted this summer.  We have done this for the past five or six years so we are accumulating quite a library of painted rocks, many, unfortunately, have lost their paint from the harsh winters.  We hope this polyurethane will help them keep their luster.

Painted Rocks
We both worked up a sweat painting these rocks because it was so humid, so we went for a swim to cool off and decided to bag our trip to Bemus Point for wings.  The Casino was hoping to set the world record for wings consumed and we knew the village would be packed with people.  I decided to take a  drive over to Bemus and check it out before I picked up a pizza.  I was right.  There was nary a place to park in the entire village within walking distance of the Casino, as everyone in the nearby area seemed to be there, every restaurant packed, scores of people eating wings in the village park. I was able to get my pizza and head up fairly easily.

We then relaxed with a libation of the front porch for an hour, listening to the end of the PGA on Sonos, enjoying an appetizer of red pepper jelly, cream cheese and crackers, as the boat traffic began to dwindle.  The pizza was just average, disappointing, with a modicum of pepperoni.  We watched Real Time With Bill Maher and it's good to see him back from a vacation.
