A Welcome Morning Sunrise

5:56

5:57
The sun rose at 5:55, as I sat out on our porch, waiting for it to peak over Long Point.  The weather channel suggests the actual time is 5:42, but from where I sit, it's always later here at the lake as it must climb over the eastern shoreline and trees. It looks like today will be the opposite of yesterday's clouds, rain and wind as it should be sunny and warm. It's 8:15 and I took my usual paddle, chased a heron but was unable to get a photograph, alas.  Quite a few fishing boats were out this morning as summer days are nearing, spring is about to slide by.

Kayak Morning

NOT A Heron Among The Reeds
Sunday was one of those rare days where we were content to stay inside.  It rained off and on most of the morning and the wind picked up in the afternoon, with 20 to 30 mph gusts so there was no boating, kayaking, or sitting out on the dock.  Instead, we spent the day either reading, relaxing, or watching movies on TV.  It felt strange to spend the day this way, especially in June as it's more likely to have a day like this in the winter.  I did force myself to get out on the lake in the morning, paddling my way through rain and rough waters, unable to take any photographs because of the rain.  I admit, however, to enjoying the brief paddle on the water, coming home soaking wet, like a guy tough enough to endure stormy weather.

A Windy, Wet And Gray Sunday
The major undertaking was a great breakfast.  Around noon, Evie discovered a hunger for pancakes and since Red's Pancake House won't open until next fall, she quickly gathered the ingredients for buttermilk pancakes.  First, she made the batter, then fried the bacon before cooking about a dozen pancakes.  Once they were done, she fried three eggs and we had a breakfast to rival any at Bob Evans or IHOP.  We watched another great CBS Sunday Morning, with both heartbreaking and inspiring stories.  It doesn't just stick with politics, in fact, it rarely does, preferring to follow human interest stories, revolving around art, especially the performing arts and culture.

A BIG Breakfast, The Greatest, The Best Ever
After breakfast, it was time to read or watch movies on TV.  I started two books and because they both had short chapters, I went back and forth between the two of them, trying to decide which I liked best.  I finally realized I liked both of them, so I will continue to read both, one mostly during the day, the other at night.  By the way, I finished Wilt Chamberlain's biography and ended up liking the man, awed by his accomplishments on the basketball court as well as other sports.  He may have been the greatest athlete of the 20th century.

Sunday Dinner With Linda And Ron
We finally rose from our couches around 4:30, showered and got dressed because we were invited for Sunday dinner at good friends, Linda and Ron.  We had our usual fun evening, with good food, surf and turf, grilled expertly by Ron outside and plenty of libations, beer with appetizers, wine with dinner.  It was a good way to end a boring but leisurely Sunday.  We didn't get home until 9:45, in time to watch some TV before going up to read and sleep.
