A Sticky, Hazy Warm Morning

5:55

6:08
What a difference between the weekend mornings and today.  No bass boats, in fact no fishing boats in sight, just a single kayak passing by.  I heard splashing, wondering what was going on.  Is someone jumping into the lake.  I walked out on the dock and realized it was carp, huge carp, spawning.  It happens every June, usually a bit earlier,  they are close to the shoreline and they cause quite a commotion.  It's 8:30 and I am back from a paddle, sweaty and sticky, ready to jump in the lake.

Kayak Morning
Yesterday was a typical early August day, hot, humid, the high near 90º.  Unfortunately, it's not even summer yet, just late spring.  We both were up early.  I got in some watering before it became too hot and paddled for an hour, down to a weed invested Whitney Bay.  Evie was out watering in her garden when I got back, trying to get it done before it warmed up. And we then both worked on the privets, cutting them back,  getting out the dead wood.  Readers must think we are obsessed with our privets because we are either trimming or watering them, but they act as a natural barrier/wall to our yard, green and healthy.  We did not plan on doing much else the rest of the day, a good choice.  We did have a big breakfast, eggs, toast, and bacon and watched a mediocre CBS Sunday Morning.  Sometimes they don't hit the target.

The rest of the day, the afternoon, was mostly enjoying dock time for Evie, occasionally jumping in the water to cool off.  I would join her briefly, but soon had enough heat and sun and came back in the house and watched the Germany/Mexico futbol game.  It was a great game, worth watching and I stayed in for the entire game.  And surprise, Mexico beat the 2014 World Cup Champions, 1-0.  I took a couple of dips in the lake to cool off, did some weed whacking before we both took showers because we were going to friends for dinner.

Friends For Years
We were getting together with old friend Stan and his high school friend, Carol, at Jane and Jerry's new lakefront home.  It's a great location, with an amazing lake view.  Despite the heat, we were able to sit outside for appetizers and drinks, as well as eat out.  We had a great meal, caught up on all their lives, and they had just found out their son, Luke, had just gotten engaged in Sedona, AZ.  Needless to say, they were excited.  We had a special dessert, mayo chocolate cake in honor of Jane's father who had recently passed away.  It was his favorite and I can understand why.  We were home around 9:15 and walked into a warm house, so we quickly opened all the windows and it made a big difference.  We watched some TV before going up to bed to read briefly, at least me, before falling asleep.  A fun evening.
