8:26 |
It's a cold morning, 21º, partly cloudy, as the sun peaked out from behind the gray for a few minutes and then went back into hiding. I got up at my usual time 6:20, really 7:20 and the fishermen were already out again, much closer to our house this time. I just looked up, at 8:25 and a fog has moved in, obscuring the eastern half of the lake. Long Point is no longer visible yet the fishing guys in the middle of the lake, are visible.

Fog Slides In |
Yesterday was a different Saturday for us. It started out as a normal one, with NPR's Only A Game and Weekend Saturday coffee and no hurry. Around 9:30, Evie got busy in the kitchen, putting together the dough for some cookies, this time Pecan Sandies. Because her back was feeling better, she wanted to do something, to get in a walk. So while I went to drop the trash off at the Transfer Station, she got ready for, get ready, a walk around the Chautauqua Mall. Yep, we joined the rest of the golden agers and decided to get some exercise by walking the mall. To be frank, we were afraid of the roads because of the snow and ice.

Theraputic Shopping At Bon Ton's |
I think, however, Evie's idea of a walk was just a ruse for shopping and a stop at Five Guys for a burger, fries, and a coke. I have to admit I didn't mind especially the burger and fries. We did pick up a few bargains at the kitchen store and Bon Ton's. When we got home, around 1:00, we discovered one of the new wine glasses we had bought was cracked so I will have to take them back on Monday to get another set.
We also bought a new large nonstick cookie sheet, so when we got home, Evie got busy with the pecan sandies dough and spent an hour baking these dandies. For much of the afternoon, I read and watched some basketball, acting as the tasting expert for the cookies. Late afternoon, we got tired of watching basketball and watched the first episode of a new mini series on Netflix called THE WORLD'S MOST EXTRAORDINARY HOMES. An architect and a brassy British female actress visit and discuss each home with the owners and architect. It's worth taking a look, the homes are extraordinary. In this episode, they visited homes in the mountains of Malibu, the desert of Tucson, a New Zeeland lake and the Swiss Alps.

And The Sun Begins To Set |
We then had a glass of wine, some pistachios and watched the lake disappear into darkness before a late dinner, around 7:30, of the leftover tagine on couscous. We watched some news, more of the same, then the first episode of the third season of THE KILLING, just as dark or even more than the previous season. By the end of the first episode, we needed a laugh so we watched Friday night's REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER, always good for a belly laugh or two (if you are on the left like us). Otherwise, it would be pure blasphemy, punishable by censorship. I have to admit that even I am surprised that he gets away with some of the things he says. I guess because it's cable there's no limit to truth as well as vulgarity, obscenity.
