Blue On White With Gray

The sun is in full force, a blue sky morning, the lake's vastness spread before us.  It's cold again, 22º when I got up at 6:30 to an awakening dawn.  The heavy snow from Thursday evening stopped Friday morning and we got probably eight inches of snow in Woodlawn, but some areas towards Mayville got up to sixteen inches.  And I just noticed the lake is open some, off to the north of us, where Woodlawn creek empties into the lake.  No wonder Evie saw a raft of ducks fly by yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday was a stay at home day, mostly because of the wind and heavy, wet snow.  We woke to a parking area steeped in snow from Shane our snowplow guy.  I am not sure what he thought he was doing but we could not get our car in or out because of the drifts from his plowing.  I went out to see if I could do anything but the snow was so heavy that we decided to call Shane.  Fortunately, he was nearby and came by around 10:00 and remedied the situation, by plowing out our parking area.  I went out and cleaned off the car, moved it over to the newly plowed parking area and we were happy now that we could get out of Dodge if necessary.  It was not the way we wanted to start our morning.

I cannot say we did much the rest of the day, alas, as the snow was too deep and wet to hike or cross-country ski and I was not in the mood for it anyway.  Evie took it easy because of her back, so we had no plans to go anywhere.  We had a lunch of the last of the lentil soup and a leftover sub sandwich from Thursday, still edible...I think.  After lunch, Evie decided to put together a casserole which sounded good to her, made up of cabbage, potatoes, gruyere cheese and creme fraiche.  How could it not be good.  It was in the oven by 3:00 and we reheated it for dinner.

Woodlawn's Winter Beauty
Late afternoon, after a nap and my book, Ed Mc Bain's GHOST,  I got fed up with myself and at Evie's urgings, I went out for a walk up the hill staying on the now thawed road.  The pine trees were striking, the boughs heavy from the wet snow.  It was good to be out in the fresh air, always a panacea for the blues.

Woodlawn Creek
Around 6:00, Evie put a rotisserie chicken and the potato/cabbage/cheese casserole in the oven and while they warmed up, we had our nightly glass of vino.  We were looking forward to dinner and the next three or four episodes of the series THE KILLING.  Both the chicken and the casserole were great,  just what Evie wanted.  And we hardly moved from our couches for the next three hours as we watched four more episodes of THE KILLING, getting up only to quickly wash the dishes and dish our a bowl of ice cream.  By 10:00, we had enough and watched some news before going up to bed.
