A Few Flurries Begin The Day

A Happy Cosmopolitan Night

7:51

8:38

It's just about 8:00 and I am been listening to CSPAN, my usual Sunday morning entertainment.  It's fun to hear real Americans explain their reason for loving or hating the recent political events.  It just started to snow on a 17º morning. I have to admit to a perverse enjoyment in listening to many callers sing the praises of the 'greatest President ever' and nothing can change their mind, facts be damned, conspiracies theories embraced.

Saturday was a strange day, mostly because we spent a good part of the day watching the Impeachment Hearings to the very end, when Mitch Mc Connell, despite voting to acquit, vigorously criticized Trump's actions, blaming him for the storming of the Capitol, talk about hypocrisy.  Anyways, a good part of the day was spent prepping for our special dinner with Linda and Ron.  Evie was making a recipe from Cooks Illustrated, a beef bourguignon with many steps, taking a  good part of the day.  Before starting, we gathered the trash and I was off to the Transfer Station, my one job for the day. I did it well by the way.

Planes And Dog Walkers

I won't go into the steps taken for our dinner other than to say it was time-consuming.  I pitched in when necessary, grabbing something from a high shelf, washing some dishes or pots and pans, even driving to Hogan's to get some bacon, needed for the salad mid-afternoon.  For lunch, I had the last of the squash soup with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and watched the Impeachment. And, as usual, I fell asleep while reading my book.  By 5:00, however, dinner was prepped, the kitchen cleaned up, and the playlist of songs was ready to play on Evie's iPhone.

To start the evening, I made us Cosmopolitans served in fancy glasses.  They were a bit strong so we had to add more ice and cranberry juice and then they were perfect.  We had brie with blue-cheese and pistachio with our drinks and listened to oldies by the likes of Al Green, Barry White, and Leonard Cohen, some of our favorites.  Dinner started with a delicious wedge salad, drowned in blue cheese dressing, topped with bacon.  We also had a fine bottle of pinot noir, compliments of Linda.  By the time we finished the salad, we were full yet had another course to go, the beef bourguignon, with homemade heart-shaped biscuits.  We decided to forego serving it on noodles, happy to dip our biscuits in the delicious sauce. We chose to have our dessert at the table, Ina Garten's sinful chocolate cake, with ganache in between the cake layers.  What a great way to end our Valentine Day's meal.  By the time we finished, it was almost 10:00 so Linda and Ron headed home, and we did up some of the dishes before bed.  It was a fun ending to a busy day.
