Manhattans, Appetizers, Pizza, And Pepsi

Manhattan Saturday Night

8:36

It's a dreary, overcast morning, with a light mist but I still went out for a paddle.  I woke up, however, thinking the last thing I wanted to do was kayak.  After my coffee, however, it sounded better so out I went, paddling north to Whitney Bay and back,  on a misty morning.

Kayak Morning

Yesterday was a typical Saturday although most of our days are typical or the same. I paddled, blogged, ate breakfast and then we thought about a hike or walk and what to have for dinner.  We decided on a walk along Lakeside Drive, something we used to do religiously back when we came up on weekends and both of us were working.  Since it was Manhanttan Saturday night, we thought a pizza would be a good dinner, easy and tasty.  Having settled the day, we dropped off the trash at the Transfer Station and drove over to Bemus for a walk.  We should have picked a weekday because the traffic on the road was annoying, as we had to walk in the lawns when a car went by.  We walked at least a couple of miles, far enough to make us feel like we got in another good day of exercise outdoors.

We were late getting back, at 1:00 and I was excited for lunch, the homemade turkey soup and something special, a fried baloney sandwich, with mayo and pickles on toast. Yum.  It made both of us think about our days in Istanbul when a butcher would deliver pork, ham or baloney once every couple of weeks to our home.  He lived in a Polish village on the Asian side of the Bosphorus called Polonezkoy.  It was settled by a group of Polish emigres in 1842, a Christian enclave in a Muslim country. The village is probably 15 miles from our house so he would have to take a dolmus (shared taxi) to the Bosphorus, take a ferry to our village, then walk up our hill to deliver our pork in his black briefcase and take an order for next time.  Unfortunately, he stopped delivering after our second or third year.  Anyway, I loved my sandwich, watched my show, then read and napped as per usual.

Saturday Afternoon At Long Point

At 4:30, I drove over to Bemus and picked up our pizza and by 5:30, we were settled on our couches, enjoying a Manhattan, chips, cheese, and crackers.  Some routines are worth keeping.  We sat down to pizza and Pepsis around 7:00 and watched our shows, Colbert, of course, and another episode of Midnight Diner which I inadvertently called Tokyo Diner in yesterday's blog.  We ended up watching Cabin Masters before going to bed.
