Where's The Sun?

5:30
Our Neighbors Skiing At 7:00
Another gray and foggy morning here on the lake.  The view looks like a daguerreotype from Matthew Brady, the Civil War photographer.   It's 60º and a few boats were out by 5:30 when I came downstairs.

Yesterday was much like this morning, gray most of the day, damp, with an occasional drizzle just reminding us it's still Spring.  I paddled for an hour because it was Sunday, no yoga.  We had a relaxing morning but around 10:30, we decided to drive to Erie because Evie wanted to replace a couple of our bushes with hydrangeas although we were not sure what was the best kind.  So we hit the road only to run into a dense fog must of the way on RT 86.  We ended up driving forty-five mph because of the fog but fortunately, were in no hurry.  We browsed Stan's Nursery with the help of their main guy, Mark, who seems to know everything about any plant and if he doesn't know he looks it up.  We ended up with a fairly new strain of hydrangea called Confetti which he's had for just a couple of years.  We also looked at hostas because we had one more spot for one and found an interesting hosta called guacamole.  How could we pass up one called that?

We drove off with three plants and a few other items and a large hit on our credit card.  Gardens are not cheap and we always want one more of this or that.  This time it was hydrangeas and hostas, next time it will be something else.  It keeps us busy and happy and a garden always gives us something to do.  As Candide advised, 'cultivate your garden and avoid speculation,'  We are working at it.

When we got home, Evie got busy in the kitchen, frying up some bacon and home fries, then eggs, for our big breakfast, topped with a bagel.  We watched some of CBS Sunday Morning, a show we have missed the past couple of weeks.  The rest of the afternoon was one of leisure as it was still gray and wet outside, discouraging any planting or work in the yard,.  I took a good nap for once which may be the reason I was up at 5:00 this morning.  We had grand plans for dinner but by wine time, Evie had lost her mojo so we settled on the leftover lamb curry with some roasted cauliflower and a salad.  We watched the last three holes of the US Open which was fun because the leader, Gary Woodland, kept his poise and won a Major for the first time.  It was 7:30 by the time it was over so we decided to watch a fairly new film called THE HATE U GIVE about racial profiling and police brutality.  It was based on the novel of the same name.  We liked it enough to stick with it although much of it was cliches and tub-thumping.  The young actor who played Star, the main character, was wonderful, as she tried to live two lives, the girl from the ghetto, the preppy in an upscale, mostly white prep school.
