Winter The Fourth Or Fifth

Friday Afternoon Winds

Long Point Friday

Where's Waldo?
The lake is white again, the temperature has dropped to 12º and winter begins once again.  We had a couple in November and December, a couple more in January and February.  I can't say I am unhappy it's returned because the alternative, slush and rain, and mud, is worse.  We received just an inch of snow last night but it was enough to paint everything white this morning.

They Are Back This Morning
Yesterday was windy, a result of a temperature change of at least 40º, a common occurrence around here lately.  I braved the winds to get to yoga, an intrepid kind of guy and stopped for coffee afterward, talking with Dave and getting to know Grizzly, a bearded old guy like Dave and me, with definite opinions about the government, rules, and laws. We left together with him apologizing for his tub-thumping.  I like him.

Our Pet
When I returned home, lots of twigs were down in our parking area and I should have gotten out a rake before the snow began later afternoon and early evening.  Lunch, however, was calling and Evie had made a soup out of the previous nights roasted green beans.  A bowl of green bean soup (yum?) and a cheese sandwich was my lunch.  The afternoon went quickly, a nap and reading a new book, having finished my Kate Atkinson.  It is one of the free books Amazon offers Prime Members each month titled FREEDOM ROAD by William Lashner.  So far, so good.  The afternoon wind lent itself to interesting photographs of blowing snow, moving across the lake, obscuringLong Point behind a curtain of snow.

We had decided earlier in the day to go out for dinner for a fish fry.  Evie really liked the fish fry she had at Alexanders, a fairly new restaurant in Findlay Lake, about a 20-minute drive.  So even though it started to snow as we got ready, we decided to hit the back roads to Findlay Lake as the sky darkened.  It was not a smart move as we drove through blizzard-like weather on and off the entire way, taking our time.  The worst part was when a gust of wind would send the snow across the road, literally blinding us for a few seconds.   It took us over a half hour and we noticed flashing emergency lights on #86, the highway, so taking the back road was a good idea.  We almost didn't' stay since there were no seats open at the bar.  Because of the snow, we decided to stay for dinner, thinking the weather would be better in an hour.  Evie got her fish fry and though it was different from her previous one, it was first rate and my burger with grilled onions and mushrooms was also quite good.  Hand cut fries as a side also helped us enjoy our dinner.  We took the highway home, #86, and it was clear with a few flurries, nothing heavy so it was an easy drive home

We were home in time to watch a Colbert and the penultimate episode of The Great British Baking Show.  We will finish the finals either tonight or tomorrow.  I couldn't wait to get into bed because Evie washed our sheets.  Nothing like a bed with clean sheets.  Yep
