A Warm Morning, A Soupy Lake

It's 7:15 and I have been up for an hour, watching the slowly melting lake appear, listening to an intrepid fisherman drag his sled out on the lake, a new sound of winter.  It's 40º out although Sunday the temperature hit 56º, at least a 60º change from a few days earlier.

Heading Out To Fish At 7:00 AM
Yesterday would accurately be described as spring-like, with warm temperatures, sun, puffy clouds and blue skies.  It felt amazing to be outside.  So after waking up, coffee, and showering, we decided to go for a walk around the Chautauqua Institution, thinking the roads would not be icy.  Nevertheless, Evie smartly wore her stabilizers, just in case.  It was a sloppy walk, with mostly slush on the roads but it was still good to be back for a walk.

The Bell Tower At The Chautauqua Institution
We seemed to be the only ones who had this idea because we never met up with anyone else.  We noticed that two new homes were going up at the south end, basically blocking the view of the lake for a couple of homes behind them.  They cannot be happy.  We walked a couple of miles, took us less than an hour as we took our time, in no hurry to get home.  After our walk, we drove to Tops in Mayville to pick up a few items but ended up spending 50 bucks...just a few things!

A Lovely Sunday Afternoon
We did not get home until 1:00, so Evie immediately started our breakfast, frying up the bacon while and making a rub for our dinner, a rack of St. Louis' ribs. We had our typical Sunday breakfast, home fries with onions, fried eggs, bacon, and toast, always the best meal of the week.  We watched CBS Sunday Morning of course and when we finished, Evie put the ribs in the oven, to slow cook for four or five hours.

Skiing On Thin Ice
We then had a leisurely afternoon, not having to worry much about dinner or getting out on the lake since we had a morning walk.  I am enjoying my Kate Atkinson and I had forgotten how different she is from other detective novelists, as she is in no hurry to get to the murder, in fact, she goes into great detail into seemingly unimportant characters.

Late Afternoon Fishing Guys
Before we enjoyed a glass of wine as we watched the lead up to the Super Bowl, Evie quickly put together a Mac N Cheese casserole, with cream cheese and cheddar and put it in the oven with the ribs. Evie was hoping for a Rams victory but I wanted the Patriots because I like Brady, perhaps the only person to like him outside of New England.  Around 7:00, Evie plated our ribs, mac n cheese, and coleslaw and we dug into our dinner. Sad to say, our ribs were as bad as the game.  The St. Louis ribs were so fatty that neither of us finished our portions, sad to say.  And the game was boring unless you liked punts.  So Super Bowl Sunday was a bit of a downer here at the lake but we will get over it.  And never buy St. Louis ribs again!
