34º With Snow/Rain

8:32

8:40
A lazy morning here as Evie beat me up this morning...I mean she got up before me!  The sky is overcast, the lake a bright white, peopled with smudges of red and black, the fishing guys in their shanties.

Friday was another good winter day, lots of snow, a few flurries during the day, cold enough so that there was little snow melt, unlike today when the temperatures are already in the 30's.  I left for yoga at 9:00 and we had a  class of three which was great as we were able to do things that would be impossible with a large class.  Afterwards, I stopped at Ryders for coffee and a  couple dozen eggs, then at Save A Lot, to pick up pork chops and applesauce.  I woke thinking of Evie's breaded pork chops so that's what we were going to have for dinner.

When I got home, Evie was having fun, making Valentine cookies, a pumpkin pie, and the sponge for Foccacia, an Italian flatbread we love.  For lunch, I had leftover steak and mushrooms, with a couple of eggs, a real Man's breakfast.  The rest of the afternoon was a blur, watching TV, reading, napping and thinking about cross-country skiing.  Which is what I did, think about it, not do it.  I did manage to get outside briefly, to clear our parking area once again of a couple inches of wet snow.

By 5:30, Evie had the pork chops breaded and ready to fry, so we sat down and watched the sky darken with a glass of wine, of course.  Daylight is perceptively longer each dusk, as we move towards Spring and Summer.  Around 6:30, Evie pulled the baked potatoes out of the oven, fried up the pork chops and made a salad, and we had the dinner I wanted.  We watched two more episodes of Black Harbor, not sure why.  Perhaps because it's funny when it should be serious.  We ended watching a couple of hours of the opening of the Winter Olympics from Korea.  It was exciting to watch the teams enter the arena, especially the teams from both South and North Korea who entered as one Korea.  Everyone stood and seemed excited and hopeful about it except for Mike Pence and his wife, who remained seated, paying little attention to the entrance, a troubling America 'first' attitude at an event that stands for world unity.

This afternoon, we drive to Penn State Behrend, a half hour away, to watch our nephew, Connor, play volleyball for Keuka College, in a weekend tournament.  It should be fun as his parents, brother and sister, and grandparents will also be at the game and return to our house for dinner and an overnight.
