A daily journal of our lives (begun in October 2010), in photos (many taken by my wife, Evie) and words, mostly from our home on Chautauqua Lake, in Western New York, where my wife Evie and I live, after my having retired from teaching English for forty-five years in Hawaii, Turkey, and Ohio. We have three children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson, as you will notice if you follow my blog since we often travel to visit them. THE LAST MAN: VINCE FLYNN
This time Mitch Rapp must deal with a rogue CIA agent, Joe Rickman, head of the division in Afghanistan. He is kidnapped by what we assume are terrorists, the fear being he will out all of the CIA agents world wide. Rapp is then brought in by CIA Chief Kennedy to free Rickman. What he discovers has its roots in Senator Ferris, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee. What has transpired is a faux kidnapping, with Rickman colluding with both Ferris and a Pakistan General who orders his soldiers to carry out the kidnapping. For Rickman and the Pakistani, they hope to get rich. For Ferris, it's to get rid of Rapp as well as create a scandal within the CIA, undercutting Kennedy. One of the strangest details is the inclusion of Louis Gould, from CONSENT TO KILL, a previous novel. Rapp uncharacteristically spares his life at the end of the novel even though Gould has murdered Rapp's wife and child. Here, Gould repays the favor and saves Rapp's life by alerting him to a terrorist trap. Spoiler alert...Rapp saves the day.
