Evie And Her Sisters

The Petkovsek Sisters

Another sparkling morning on the lake, early clouds reflection on the lake, then a brilliant sunrise, so bright that I had to take shelter in a corner of our living room.  And best of all, it's a crisp 58ยบ, as perhaps summer has gone.  So far, the lake's empty but just wait till late afternoon and this weekend; no rain in sight, and all the boats will be out for their final run of the summer.

Yesterday, like the past few days was busy, starting with yoga for me at 10:00, to settle my mind and body.  As always, the most popular class, we had close to 30 people sardined into the studio. After wards, I came straight home, as Evie did not need anything from the store.  I had a list of chores to get done, so I got right to it as Evie was putting together dinner in the kitchen, making it easy when her sisters (and Henry, my brother in law) arrived around dinner time.  So I washed the front windows, took out the screens, washed them, then vacuumed the downstairs after Evie dusted.  It's surprising how dusty our house gets, most likely from the dirt road behind our house.  I then had a quick lunch and Evie, not one to relax, went out and cut the lawn.  After lunch, I did a few other things, like weeding the lawn, a fruitless task but I like doing it at times, only in the shade and when the weeds are big and fat, ready for pulling out.  I filled half a basket with the suckers.

Sisters Caught Live
My Brother In Law, Henry and Claire
We were ready to take it easy by 4:00 and just wait for the arrival of the sisters.  Their planes were on time and they got here just about the time we expected at 6:30.  It's been a few years since they have all gotten together at once, Evie, Jean, Claire and Elaine, and they have not been to the lake in a long time, perhaps never together like this holiday.  Unfortunately, on the way here, Henry got a ticket from our highway patrol but the cop was so efficient that they were on there way in five minutes, as he was anxious to get the next driver.  Anyways, after unpacking, picking out bedrooms, we settled on the front porch with various refreshments and appetizers and enjoyed the beautiful afternoon on the lake, laughing and catching up.  Claire, as usual, brought gag gifts, a box of chocolate fudge cake mix and frosting, to celebrate the three September birthdays, with 208 candles, not knowing Evie is putting together their childhood favorite, the Italian casatta cake, made of three layers of cake,  filled with whipped cream. pastry cream and strawberries and for those of you from Ohio, we used to buy it from Fazio's, the local grocery store.

Dinner Together
Dinner was great, especially the sauce (a joke, as Evie mistakenly used baking powder rather than corn starch, ruining the first batch).  So we had Greek chicken, a salad with tahini dressing, brown rice, corn, pickled beets and baklava for dessert.  Everything was great and all were hungry from their trip.  We adjourned to the living room, had some tea and baklava and talked until 11:00 when we all went up to bed, tired and ready for bed.  A good start to the Labor Day weekend.
