A Great Early Morning Paddle On The Lake

7:00
7:15
8:21
I just got back from my morning paddle, and as I was pulling in my kayak, it started to drizzle, perfect timing.  It's just after 8:00 and I have been up since 5:50 when it was surprisingly dark.  I waited a long time for some color in the sky, about twenty minutes after the sunrise.  It's now threatening to the south, with clouds and open sky.

The Beauty Of A Kayak Morning
Yesterday began with yoga at 9:30 for me, a good class with Julie, and when I got home Evie had already put together a chocolate chip cookie dough which sits in the refrigerator for twenty four hours (she's baking them at the moment) and then was into deep cleaning of the north side of our house.  We have been having trouble getting our windows clean, even after a double washing by both of us.  So, I was out again, in the rhododendron's, washing windows on both sides of the house in the old fashion way, using an organic window cleaner and newspaper.  We have tried all sorts of cleaners, and I have even used a squeegee but this seemed to work best.  Finally, we can look out our windows and not see a film or smears.  The rest of the morning she spent cleaning behind furniture, always a revelation, especially the north side of our house which we tend to ignore.

Once I was finished with the windows, it was time for lunch, leftover Mexican pizza from Taco Hut and another episode of Ray Donovan.  By the time I was done, Evie was out enjoying the afternoon, warm but not hot like the previous week.  It was a spectacular September day on the lake, little traffic, blue skies, a cooling wind and nothing we had to do.  And best of all, we were going out for dinner so there was no worry about that.  About 4:00, however, Evie got the mojo back and decided to cut the lawn.  So she was busy doing that for the next hour while I looked for things to do, like take more yard waste up the hill.  She didn't finish until after 5:00 and had to hustle to get ready for dinner.

We picked up our neighbors, Ken and Marjorie at 6:00 and drove over to Charlie Tea's house in Katawkwa, also on the lake.  We sat out on his porch, with a lovely view of the lake and had wine and appetizers, a special cheese dip called Peggy Fletcher's Chutney/Curry dip...yum.

Enjoying Sunset At Barcelona Beach
We stayed for a half hour before driving north to Barcelona, to the barbecue restaurant called Pigs That Fly.  It's set right on the shores of Lake Erie, so we sat outside around a table, watching the sunset, drinking beer, wondering why more people were not out enjoying the sunset like us.  We were the only people outside and it was pleasant, no wind.  We ordered mostly barbecue sandwiches, either brisket or pulled pork.  I go the special, a rib and mac n cheese sandwich.  I would give the food a C+, the view an A+ and we all agreed it was a place we would patronize again.  The beach, by the way, in front of our tables was large enough for two volleyball courts, so they must have beach volleyball teams during the summer.

We were home just after 9:00;  it was another fine day on the lake.
