A Sad Day But A Fun Night

Up around 6:20 and I am getting tired of saying what an awesome morning sunrise but it's a fact. Lots of clouds, some blue skies, and a sun peaking through the cloud masses off and on.  It's 62ยบ out, a boat or two on the lake, as summer wanes, traffic and visitors, too, and we move towards Autumn, our favorite season here on Chautauqua Lake.

Yesterday's morning was subdued as it was the end to the visit for Evie's sisters.  We sat around, like most days of departures, waiting to drive to the airport.  Jeannie and I did get in a pleasant kayak paddle across the lake and back to the campground and home, so all was not lost.  We had a good breakfast, of Turkish or Western omelets and sat on the porch, planning our next get together in Scottsdale, the weekend before Easter, 2017.  It seems like a long way off but before we know it, winter will be here and we will begin thinking Spring and warm weather.

Evie And Her Sisters
Before we left for the airport, Joe, our neighbor, invited us over to their house for beers and bean bag late afternoon with the Fox's.  It sounded like fun, so we said yes.  We, then, left for the Buffalo Airport, wondering what traffic would be like on Labor Day.  Fortunately, we exited the freeway at the airport road just before traffic was backed up.  We bid farewell to Evie's sisters, and drove home on a busy but fast moving Interstate #90.  We stopped at Tuscany, an Italian deli in Fredonia but they did not have what we wanted, bone in pork chops, so we just headed home on a lovely, sun lit afternoon of farms, corn and hay fields.

Evening With Bergens and Foxs
We were home by 4:00, both surprisingly tired out, the way we always seem to feel after guests leave, somewhat let down.  Evie went out to enjoy the last sun of the afternoon and I fell asleep reading my book.  We went over to our neighbors around 6:15 and sat outside, drinking beer, snacking, talking and playing some competitive games of bean bag.  Even though the boards were not to our liking (the newer, rip offs of our old boards), Evie and I, veterans of 40 years of bean bagging, and our partners finished one and two.  I hope they invite us back again.

A Couple Of Ringers
By the time it was getting dark, we decided to combine dinners and leftovers, so we went home, brought back our cauliflower soup and Casatta cake and Joe and Jim grilled out some burgers and steak.  So we had a literal feast or what we called a potpourri of foods.  It was great fun, and we sat eating and drinking until 11:00 when we realized Joe and Betsy had to go to work this morning in Buffalo, so we said our thank yous and went home.  It was a perfect way to end a really busy but fun Labor Day weekend,  first with relatives, then friends. We are a lucky couple
