An Autumn-like Morning, Clear And Cool

I was up around 6:25, to a clear sky, nary a cloud, as a line of orange outlined the horizon.  It's 49º, not as chilly as yesterday, at least inside, as we closed the windows last night before going to bed.  It looks like another fine day although the weekend is calling for rain, alas, not a very pleasant welcome for our friends, Rick and Carolyn, who are flying in from Big Bear Lake, California for a few days.

No yoga yesterday, in fact, none for the next month or so, depending on my mood, the weather, our interest in getting out and hiking the area trails.  So yesterday was another deep cleaning day, as we both worked on the dining room, the windows and screens, scrubbing and washing until they sparkle.  I have to admit that by the time we were through with all the windows, they were so clean it looked as though we had no windows.  Amazing grace.  I did get an easy half hour walk through our Woodlawn/Victoria woods, for the first time since last spring.  The path is so overgrown in parts that I will need to get a scythe out to make my way next time.  It felt good to be back there again as neither of us our much good at hiking when it's hot and humid.  The 40's, 50's and 60's are perfect.

When I got back, Evie was ready for another big shopping day because our friends were arriving late Saturday for four days and we want to be well prepared, a clean house, spiffy bedroom, and a larder full of goodies.  Once everything was put away, Evie quickly got on her bathing suit to go out and enjoy the great afternoon.  I had a quick lunch, leftover Iskender kebab and watched the first episode of the second season of Narcos, the story of drug lord Pablo Escobar.  It's pretty well done, and seemingly accurate.  Just after 2:00, I had to drive into Jamestown to get my Subaru serviced, as they were redoing something to do with starting the car in cold weather.  It was gratis so I don't mind.  I stopped at Peterson's Vegetable Stand, picked up some home grown eggplant and grapes for Evie and came home to join her on the dock.  We stayed until it started to cool down, then went and jumped in our kayaks for a paddle across the lake, back to Sandy Bottom and home, commenting on how, in another couple of weeks, much of our paddle will be in the shade as the sun sets earlier and earlier.

We then poured ourselves a glass of sauvignon blanc, and Evie started putting together our dinner of salmon, rice, salad and spinach, while making some homemade apple sauce in between the salmon broiling, the spinach sauteing.  What a woman.  We then had a relaxing evening, trying to like the new series Atlanta, but we had difficulty with the Black slang, and following the story although it's my guess it will be a very popular series among the millennials, whoever they are.  We then watched another episode of the Spanish soap opera/political thriller THE TIME IN BETWEEN before going to bed.
