High Waters But Sunshine So Far

s
6:55 Sunshine
Slept in till 6:45, awoke to lots of sunshine, the lake just about to seep over the lip of our wall.  It's to be a cooler day, high of 61º, and so far, gentle winds and clear skies.  Let's hope we don't have much more rain after yesterday's two to three inches, even four in some areas around the lake.

Yesterday was a wet and stormy morning, yard puddled, lake rising, docks in some danger of being submerged or floating away.  I decided to go to yoga since it was Elise's last class, one of my gurus for the last three years.  She is moving to Colorado.  As a send off, I gave her small pin with an evil eye, to keep her safe.  I was surprised that only six people were in class but most likely the weather kept people away.  In fact, as I was driving to class, a huge tree fell across Summit Avenue in Lakewood, about a quarter of a mile from class.  I must have arrived just after it fell, as one car was in front of me, and a large electrical fire was blazing in the middle of the road.  Fortunately, I was able to take a side street as the emergency vehicles arrived.  After class, it was clear that flooding was a problem, anywhere near streams and lowlands, as the creeks were overflowing their banks, flooding any homes or trailers that sat along them, especially Goose Creek.  Sears parking lot of was flooded, but Wegman's was fine as was Home Depot.
Flotsam in Lake
Keeping Our Neighbor's Dock in Place
Shore Line Debris
When I got home, the rain had stopped but Evie was worried about more rain, especially our dock as well as the Leonards.  The water was up to the rails and if it rained any more, or the wind picked up, we could be in trouble.  So we spent part of the afternoon, putting barrels with water on Leonard's dock, and I fastened my dock pieces to the metal horses with wood screws, hoping that would hold the pieces together.  Some of our neighbors did similar precautionary work, raising the wooden pieces, or placing barrels on them like us.  So far, we have not had anymore rain though it was predicted, the same for today but nothing like Tuesday night.  After we worked on the docks, we ended up relaxing on our dock's end piece, with a beer and chips, enjoying the warm, even sunny end of the day.   No wind, no rain, just lots of flotsam floating by, a few fishermen out.  Boating will be dangerous the next couple of days because of all the debris.
Late Afternoon Clouds Over Long Point
For dinner, Evie put together a chicken curry, with cauliflower and broccoli, and served it over rice, just what we wanted, something spicy and healthy.  We watched another episode of Friday Night Lights and the final episode of American Idol, overdone at times, especially Jennifer Lopez's song and dance. It was embarrassing to watch her try to be a Beyonce.
