A Still, Silent And Sunny Sunday Morning

Purple Martins Hanging Out
It's now 7:30 and I have been up for over an hour.  The lake is amazing, like a mirror, calling to both of us to come out and kayak.  No boats, just a few rafts of ducks, the only sounds that of purple martins, picking out their homes.  This morning reminds me of summer, the bright sun, the calm of the lake, a relaxing day ahead of us.

I made it to yoga with Chris at 9:00, as Evie dropped me off before going off to the Y to workout.  We were both 'good people,' getting some exercise in early in the day.  Yoga was good, lots of stretching of the back, which I need.  Chris left us with his favorite story of the Buddha.  A pilgrim says to the Buddha, "I want Happiness."  The Buddha responds: "Drop the 'I' and you have no ego.  Drop the 'want', and you get rid of desire.  Now you have happiness."  A good way to start the day, some exercise, some breathing, and thinking.  Evie picked me up at Ryder's Cup and we drove home, admiring the fact that suddenly color was appearing around the neighborhoods, azaleas, dogwoods, and Bradford pears mostly.  And they weren't there two days ago.

When we got home, I had lunch, soup and toasted cheese, and Evie gathered up her things, and went straight out on the dock to enjoy an afternoon of sun and read her book, CLEAR SKIES, DEEP WATERS, A CHAUTAUQUA MEMOIR.  For some reason, I stayed inside reading and ended up watching the Jack Reacher movie on the TV, something I rarely do in the afternoon.  It felt good though I felt guilty about staying inside when it was nice out.
Reminiscent of  Midnight Cowboy Poster?
We were to meet Ron and Linda in downtown Jamestown around 5:30, at the Dykeman Young Gallery and Vintage Emporium on 2nd Street.  They were attending the Train Show at the old Jamestown Train Station.  We parked on Pine Street and stopped in a new shop, BioDome Project, just opened, with plants, pottery, wood carving, soaps, tee shirts, all sorts of stuff made by artisans here in Jamestown.  We found that we had met the proprietor because she had worked at the nursery across from the Chautauqua Institute for a couple of years.  It's nice to see some new shops opening in Jamestown, hopefully revitalizing the city.

More Of The Girls (sort of)
Linda and Ron at Brazils
We then met the McClures at the Gallery, browsed and talked with Michael Dykeman, who for some reason has settled in Jamestown, with his vintage collections of clothing from the movies.  He has spent a good part of his life in Los Angeles, vacations there for a couple of months each winter, but lives here.  Interesting guy.  We then went to Brazil's Craft Beer and Wine Bar, a place fast becoming a go to place when we want a beer.  We like the atmosphere, the bartender, the choice of beers, and the fact we have always been able to get a seat at the bar.  It's just crowded enough.  Three of us had a Czech lager, and Evie an Anchor Summer beer.  We stayed for only one because we were going to Taco Hut for dinner and knew we would be having a pitcher of Dos Equis with our Mexican food.  Taco Hut was crowded and we had to wait for about 15 minutes but it was worth it because we enjoy the food, and Evie loves their portabella mushroom pizza.  I had fajitas for the first time in years and devoured it.  I must have been hungry.  We walked around the downtown for a bit after eating, the the sun beginning to set, then drove home.

Prom Night in Jamestown
It was about 9:15 when we got home, in time to watch one more episode of Friday Night Lights before going up to read and to bed.  I really like having a series like this to watch whenever we want.

Today looks like a perfect day, sunny and not too hot, a good day for kayaking or walk, or both.

Fact of the Day:   Last year, the 25 hedge fund managers made more than twice as much as all the kindergarten teachers in America combined.  from Paul Krugman in the NYTimes
