A daily journal of our lives (begun in October 2010), in photos (many taken by my wife, Evie) and words, mostly from our home on Chautauqua Lake, in Western New York, where my wife Evie and I live, after my having retired from teaching English for forty-five years in Hawaii, Turkey, and Ohio. We have three children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson, as you will notice if you follow my blog since we often travel to visit them. First Snow
Kind of a lazy day, wet and gray outside, and a little earlier in the day, around noon, we saw our first big, soft wet snow flakes, though they did not stick on the ground. We finally decided to join the Chatauqua Health Club, went over and plopped out 570 bucks down for the year, not too bad actually. We both worked out a bit, on the treadmills, and I know Evie will really enjoy this facility. They will have a couple of instructors call us in a few days, to schedule a session where they take us through all the machines and set up a schedule for us. They also have a pilates machine, which looks like a rowing machine, at least to me, but they don't have an instructor who can show you how to use it, which is silly. It's something Evie would really enjoy, so we will have to figure out how to use it, perhaps by watching and being around when others use it. It's surprising how much it has rained, probably close to two inches, and our ditches are filled with water. I guess we better get used to gray days, as this seems to be a harbinger of things to come. Tonight, we are going into Fredonia, for a burger and beer, then at 8:00 we are going to the Fredonia Grange, to try our first contra dancing night. I have been wanting to try it, a combination of folk, square, and other dances, where people just come to enjoy the live band, music, and dancing. ..six bucks a person They welcome newcomers, so I don't think it will be a big deal if we are rookies. No doubt Evie will catch on quickly, though I may have more trouble. It is supposed to snow again tonight, but I don't think any will stick for long.

How was the dancing? That really took me by surprise. Loved the fog so thick you could spread it on toast image from the other day. B
