Last Day With Grandchildren At The Lake Till Next Summer

I was up at 5:30, to a stunning sunrise sky of clouds, color and light.  The bass boats from down the lake have just roared by, signaling it's 6:00, the start of a tournament. And it's now just 6:30, so I have moved inside, off the porch, to avoid the bright sun on our porch.  An early morning for Beth's family as we are off to the Buffalo airport by 8:00, so they can catch their flight back to Dallas, how sad making.  Rain was predicted overnight, a 65% chance, but guess what, it did not rain.

We had a good final day with Beth's family, lots of sun and water for everyone, as the temperature got up to the mid 80's once again, so we spent much of the day sucking up the rays and swimming to cool off.  The only cool spot on the lake was in the lake as far as I was concerned.  Mid morning Tom, Mary, and Mitch went to work out, and Beth and I drove to Lakewood to pick up the necessities for tonight's special dinner, a homemade pasta dinner, with scallops and shrimp in a wine, butter and lemon sauce Evie has perfected.  We hit Ryder's Cup for coffee and fresh eggs and Beth said aloha to the regulars, then stopped at both Sam's and Wegman's for things.  Wegman's was busy, of course, and it was a Friday but we got through fairly quickly and were on our way home before noon.

We were all working toward lunch because we were having a pound of pea meal bacon and fresh eggs for breakfast.  We easily devoured the dozen eggs and the pea meal bacon, with little effort, especially with the boys around.

Tommy's Family
After lunch, everyone went out on the dock for awhile, the girls played on the surfboard and everyone hung out until around 3:30.  Evie and I and the girls took a brief hiatus but went back out to play while everyone else to a last shopping trip to Bemus to get their last souvenir tee shirt, sweatshirt or hat.  And that was basically it until around 5:00 when Evie and everyone else started to help prepping for the homemade pasta and the scallop and shrimp dish.

And just about that time it started to thunder and lightning yet the sun popped out, but no rain.  I recently read where all of New York State has issued a drought warning for Western New York, the first in fourteen years.  I take all of the above back; it did rain, hard for about 15 minutes.

Rain In The Afternoon
We started prepping dinner around 5:15, got things ready for the big push and then relaxed on our porch with pupus (appetizers in Hawaiian) and drinks for an hour until we started to get hungry and then the fun began.

We were looking at calendars, trying to figure out when was the next time we could get together, probably Thanksgiving in KC, then Dallas, like last year and Christmas with Jill in Virginia unless we can talk them in to coming to the lake after Christmas for a few days or more.  I have not mentioned it to them yet but this is a heads up.

The Fresh Pasta Crew
Dinner was, what else, great...how could it not be with home made fettuccine noodles, made by the grandchildren, the sauces by Evie, salad by Mary and Beth, and Tom seared the scallops and shrimp which finally, Evie combined in a huge bowl on the table.  We devoured the entire bowl of fettuccine, shrimp, and scallops, easily, and then sat around talking until I got the bright idea of driving down to the north end of the lake to take some drone pictures.  Unfortunately, it was overcast and getting dark so I don't think the photographs will be too impressive.  When we got home, Tommy had a fire going in the firepit, so we sat outside, made smores, until the smoke and bugs drove us back in the house around 10:00.  The girls went up to bed, some watched the Rio Olympic opening but soon got tired of one  team after another entering the arena and went up to bed.

End Of The Evening
Beth just got up, so I will finish this up.  Time to start thinking about the drive to Buffalo's airport.
