6:12 |
Feeling a bit rocky this morning, a sore throat and tired. Hope I am not getting sick. Evie was even up before me at 6:00 to take pictures of dawn. After a cup of coffee, I feel better, the wonders of caffeine.
Yesterday was another rainy day, so I went to yoga even though I was going to skip it. When it rains like it did yesterday, there's nothing that can be done outside. I got drenched just walking into class and again, when I got out. We go close to an inch of rain during the morning. When I returned home, Evie had been busy because we were having friends over for dinner. She had a list of things for me to do which kept be busy up to a late lunch. I finally finished the lentil/bulgar soup...it's the soup that used to feed the Janissary's, the Turkish army.

By 2:30, Evie had the dinner made, the table set, the house and kitchen cleaned up, so we could then relax. Or rather, she could relax; I had been relaxing all along, reading and taking a nap.
About 4:30, our neighbors, the Leonards arrived for the summer, so we helped them move all their things into the house. They are very happy to be back at the lake, love it here like us, and have spent at least parts of every summer here since when they bought their house. It was great to have them back as neighbors and the house seemed fine after a frigid winter, always a worry when you let the house sit empty for eight months.

Dinner With Leonards and Joneses |
Around 6:00, Pat and David Jones and their grandson, Ben, came over along with the Leonards. We caught up with each other although the Joneses have been here since late May. Evie brought out a game called DON'T BREAK THE ICE and we all ended up sitting around while Ben challenged his grandparents and Evie. Ben loved it. Dinner was great, a new chicken dish, loosely based on a recipe from Sarah Moulton called Mustard/Mango Chutney Chicken Thighs, but Evie made a mango sauce of her own. Everyone devoured it, along with a salad, quinoa, broccoli and Higbee's, a department store in Cleveland's famous muffins. They stayed till 9:00, playing more games with Ben while the guys talked. David told us all about his visit this past weekend to Kennebunkport, ME, where he attended Barbara Bush's 90th birthday bash. He became friends with the Bush's when he headed the fund raising for George Bush
41's Library. Since then he has been invited back each year. It sounded like an amazing experience.

Young Ben, Happy With His Cherry Sundae |
We watched the first half of the Cavs game before going up to bed. I was too tired to stay up and will watch them eke out their victory today during lunch, minus the angst of watching them almost lose a game in which they had a 20 point lead.
