Where Did The Sun Go?

8:00

Hiking Kinney's Trail

Fox's Willow

Woodlawn at Dusk, Threatening Northern Sky

Both Evie and I are up by 7:20, later than usual for me, early for her.  It's cloudy, of course, windy, a dusting of snow on the windshields of my car, but no paper yet.  How can I get by without my five minute perusal of the Post Journal?  It's 25ยบ outside, and will not get much warmer.  A good day to cross country ski, hike, or just walk some where, perhaps the CI.  Amazingly, there's a fisherman sitting on what appears to be a bucket, off of Long Point, perhaps the same guy we saw yesterday afternoon.  The early bird gets the worm, I suppose.  But the lake is also frozen just as far as the campground, where the open waters begin, so it cannot be that safe.

Crazy fisherman
Yesterday both of us felt rested, having slept in some, and were ready for a good day.  I started mine off with breakfast at the Bemus Point Inn with the boys, a good way to start the New Year, as I get the local gossip, from both the CI and the area.  We will have one more gathering next week, then a hiatus till spring when the snow birds return.  At 10:00, I returned to my Yin Yoga class and it was good to be back in a familiar venue, with a teacher I really like.  She moves slowly, explains poses well, and moves around the room, helping each one of us if we are having trouble.  And she is in no hurry.  I felt energized after the session, ready for bear.  Evie, meanwhile, had a dentist appointment, to reattach a crown that had fallen out two weeks ago.  She had used some drug store adhesive as a stop gap and it worked well.  Fortunately, both the crown and tooth seemed in good condition, so all the  dentist needed to do was attach it with a new adhesive.  That saved us a thousand dollars minimum.  After the dentist, Evie stopped by Wegman's, picked up some food from empty shelves, and came home to a nice warm house.  We then took a walk at dusk through the Woodlawn/Victoria woods and were surprised by the depth of the snow, at times at least a foot deep, making it a more rigorous walk then we had thought.  Our neighbors had cleared parts of the path with their cross country skis, making it easier in some areas.  It felt good to be in the woods again, to enjoy the waning sunshine, to feel the cold air in our lungs, as we huffed and puffed.  Dinner was ribs from Trader Joe's, baked potatoes, and cole slaw from Wegmans (terrible compared to Evie's), and we then watched the beginning of the new season of Parenthood, which we had to purchase from Apple TV.  We like it well enough to not want to wait until next year.  I am also enjoying Ian Mc Ewan's SWEET TOOTH and like most of his books, it's quite different in tone and genre and well written.  What a talent.

By the way, I saw an advertisement for Ann Hamilton's "The Event of Thread" in The New York Magazine, the 'hands on' event we went to with the Albarran's this past  Sunday. It was clearly a big event, well attended.
