We were fortunate to have an easy, event free drive yesterday from Darien, CT. Early on, around Roscoe, in the Catskills, we had some flurries but never was the road slick and by the time we got to Binghamton, it had cleared up and we had blue skies. At times, it was spectacular, as the trees had ice on the them, on both sides of the road, up the mountains, but we would then round a corner and it would change, depending on the wind, sun, location. As always, it takes us seven hours, no matter whether we stop or not.
We had to shovel our walk, about a foot of snow up here at the lake, and the house was fine, always a worry after having been a way for a couple of weeks. It was strange for both of us to be back, as it felt like we had been gone for quite awhile. We unpacked quickly, put things away, and Evie had clothes in the washer within an hour. I did go outside for a short time, to do some shoveling but had no energy, a result of the drive and getting up at 5:00. It was much more pleasant to sit in side, make myself some Turkish tea, and read, as I finished One Shot, a re-reading of a Jack Reacher novel. And I began Ian Mc Ewan's Sweet Tooth, a novel I immediately got in to.
For dinner, Beth had packed us the left overs from the previous night's dinner, so we had little to do other than warm up the lemon chicken, rice, and creamed spinach, all just as good as the night before. We settled into our spots on the couch, turned on the TV, and it felt like we had never left. Both tired, we were in bed by 10:30, ready for some fun hiking in the snow.
We had a lovely two week with the Bissells and Albarrans but, as always, it's good to be home, too.
Glad you are home and that you have some snow to enjoy. One Shot is the novel the movie was based on. Enjoy your hike in the snow today!
