"Are You Ready For Some Football?"

7:50

8:45

It's 8:40 and Evie's sleeping in. I have been up for an hour, watching the birds attack the bird feeder. At the moment, nine of them are eating black sunflower seeds. Occasionally, a woodpecker will arrive, scaring them off or, like yesterday, a hawk that hit our window, after attacking a finch. A light snow is falling and we had 3 to 4 inches overnight.

Saturday was cold and windy, a good day to stay inside. We did not do much different from our usual Saturdays. We had our coffee, wrote the blog, and listened to the distressing news, wondering what can be done about the destruction of our constitution and government. Around 10:00, we finally got on the move and set up the dishwasher, cleaned up the kitchen, and gathered the trash. I drove to the Transfer Center in my Outback, dropped off the trash, and was home by 11:00. Since I was already out, I put on my hiking boots, attached some crampons, and walked the woods. It was a rigorous hike because of the crusty snow. I would sink three or four inches or trip on someone else's footprint. I was only half an hour but it felt good to be out in the woods.

Winter

Lunch was the black bean soup I made along with the leftover lamb chops. Yum. I watched some college basketball, then my series. By 1:30, I was reading my new book, The Devil All The Time, about the dregs of humanity, living off of others. I didn't last long before I fell asleep, happy to leave the book and reality behind for a half hour. Because of the weather, we had a leisurely, lazy afternoon, reading, watching TV or on our devices. Lately, our afternoons seem to be the same. We had a glass of wine at 5:00, and were surprised at the light (we have gained close to an hour of daylight so far this winter). For dinner, Evie breaded the walleye filets I bought in Westfield Fisheries on Thursday and they were delicious, along with fried potatoes and a tartar sauce I made. We watched a couple episodes of a new series on HULU, Paradise. It has a strange premise: the world has ended except for 25,000 people who are now living a normal small-town life in an undergrown cave. It has a typical government and the President of this small town has been murdered. Go figure? Is it a sci-fi show, a murder mystery, or a thriller? We are reluctantly sticking with it. The night ended with some basketball and my series.

On A Happier Note, Our Great Grandson Rhys
