And Now There Are Seven

Once More To The Lake

Happy Cousins

A partly cloudy morning on the lake, still a warm 70º at 6:45.  A slight breeze ripples the lake, a couple of fishing boats are out in the bay.  It should be a partly cloudy morning, with thunderstorms in the afternoon.  It's after 8:00, back from a paddle, no heron photos, just a few sightings.

Bird!
Yesterday began with a paddle as usual, but when I returned, I showered, finished the blog and was on my way to the Buffalo airport by 9:50, to pick up my son Tommy and his family who were flying in from Kansas City.  If I was up early, at 5:30, they were up even earlier, at 3:00, to catch their 6:00 flight from KC.  Fortunately, their plane was early, their bags in baggage claim by the time we got there, so we were on our way home quickly, getting back to the lake at 1:30.

Great Summer Memories

Kicking Back With Face Time
An Exhausted Marlena
None of us had eaten since breakfast, so Beth quickly made up a number of quesadillas, with either leftover taco meat and cheese or chicken.  It hit the spot.  After lunch, I went upstairs for a nap, exhausted from early rising and the three-hour drive to and from Buffalo.  Tommy unfortunately, was busy a good part of the afternoon with business calls.  It looks like this may be the norm for his week here.  The girls ended up sitting around the dining room table, talking and coloring in the various food and kitchen objects.  Everyone seems to enjoy doing it, like putting together a group puzzle.

M & M docking it!

Evie and the girls went for a swim around 4:00 and Evie got out her old camera, stood in the water, taking photographs of them jumping off the dock.  We have photos of them doing this for at least the past ten years, lots of fun.

Around 5:00, I jumped in the lake, trying to get my mojo back.  We then got out the wine and started to think about dinner at 6:00.  Evie had already made the ratatouille, so all she needed to do was make the rice and Beth made the salad. I grilled the teriyaki pork chops, taking about ten minutes and the girls set the table.  We were enjoying dinner by 7:00, inside alas because it was not worth sitting outside under overcast skies.  Dinner was great, a Chautauqua summer tradition, one of many.

Dinner For Seven
After dinner, we relaxed, tired from the early rising and plane ride but the girls decided to go for a paddle around 8:00.  So I helped them get ready and as they paddled off, the rest of us went out and sat on the dock on a fine night, the sun slowly dropping to our north.

Paddling And Gabbing
The girls were out for about forty five minutes.  Around 9:00, we came in and Evie served dessert, her lemon pudding cake, perfect after a big meal, like a palate refresher.  Tom, Mary, and Marlena went up to bed early.  The rest of us stayed up for a bit, Beth and me reading, Evie and Marisa playing cards.  We all were in our beds by 10:30.
